my air filter is the oem paper one which was also changed last year.
Leading evidence: 'Replace last year' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check durametrics and no codes came up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

i remember reading another post where a fellow was i think cleaning his MAF and also found the intake tubes covered with oil?

I thought P2188 meant that the system was running too rich on bank 1?

An ECU flash could cause you to run too rich depending on its settings.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

no luck, same problem persists with the engine "choking" and cutting poewr a little after 3000K rpm.
Hi guys,
my cars seems to have broken today! to further explain, i am unable to rev past 4K, it hesitates and starts to choke around 3.5K
i have no CEL lights and this problem jsut started today. i have had softronic 4.1 (srp) for about a year as well as FVD exhaust. durametrics shows the following error codes below.
my friend suggested a bad tank of gas? i am not sure this is the case though... i am thinking i might clean out the maf sensor and see if that helps? anyone have any ideas on the error code? thanks alot
update, just cleaned out the maf sensor and noticed there was quite a bit of oil pooling up in the intake hoses. however, the actual maf sensor didn't look that dirty. i cleared the fault codes with durametrics and went for a drive.
no luck, same problem persists with the engine "choking" and cutting poewr a little after 3000K rpm. the check engine light went flashing for about 30 secs before it disappeared. i checked durametrics and no codes came up? (not even the one i had before)
i am out of ideas so if anyone could chime in that'd be great. would failed cats do this? i'm also thinking it's possible my friend was right with the bad tank of gas?
Do you have headers with cats? If so which model header/cats? Failed ones usually result in misfires due to the backpressure of a clogged pipe. Probably time to take it to the dealer.
Your second screen shot shows your oxygen sensors have failed. That's probably what is putting your engine into "limp home mode." This issue certainly needs to be diagnosed/remedied. Perhaps a mechanic with a better diagnostic tool can tell which of the sensors have failed, or read more error codes.
I thought P2188 meant that the system was running too rich on bank 1? If that's truly the case they you'd have to look at things that control how lean or rich the mixture is. Certainly the MAF does, but other things do as well. An ECU flash could cause you to run too rich depending on its settings. I suppose a bad coil or a non-firing plug would do so too, although if a coil were faulty I would think that would trip an entirely different code, but a fouled spark plug I could see being a contributing factor. We can all sit here at our computers and "guess" at the problem, but I really think you ought to take it into your local dealer and have them check it out. They have a PIWIS machine that will give them lots of information, and they have a library of troubleshooting experience and will likely be able to quickly identify and resolve the problem. If your car is under warranty then great, if not then it will cost you something to diagnose and/or fix the problem. It looks like you've done about all you can do at this point. I'm not buying the "bad gas" suggestion from a friend, the oil and gas industry is so regulated these days that the odds of getting bad gas are pretty remote, especially gas so bad that it could cause the symptoms as you've described.
diagnosis from the dealer was a bad MAF, and not covered under warrenty because of my SRP mod.
my question is, would this be from all the oil that was acumulated inside the intake pipes? if so, why do our engines have so much oil leak out? i remember reading another post where a fellow was i think cleaning his MAF and also found the intake tubes covered with oil? is this a byproduct of SRP or all m97 engines?
thanks
frustrated.
All M97 engines have oil in the intake, those with failing or failed VOS's have a LOT
HOWEVER, oil should NOT go backwards and foul the MAF, if the MAF was fouled it is typically by something ahead of the MAF like an aftermarket air filter that was over oiled.
Sometimes MAF sensors just go bad. If it was foulded it could be cleaned and reinstalled, if it went bad, then again it should be covered IMHO, unless you are out of warranty anyway. If oil was able to make its way all the way back to the MAF (means turning some corners and going against the air flow) then I think you'd have bigger problems.
Ask them to show you exactly how the SRP caused the MAF to go bad, I think they are blowing smoke up you know where..
well my car is 1 month over warrenty so that's why they are not covering it...
well i hope they are right with a bad MAF and not the o2 sensors as suggested by another forum member....
06cs, based on your initial post of hesitation at the rpm you mention I certainly say the first place to start would be the MAF.
Fouling is beleived to be a common cause of MAF failure when aftermarket filters are installed, and in theory if too mutch oil is put on an aftermarket filter it could cause the MAF heated sensors to overheat, but there are lots of different opinions on this aspect.
MAF's as with any other solid state component can fail, just because it wants to, not because of any external factors necessarily. I have a lot of expierience of MAF failures in my job as a technical manager for an industrial vehicle manufacturer and also from dealing with VAG 1.8T engines quite a bit.
