I bought my car with a few miles on it and the previous owner had already installed a Gambella exhaust which I think sounds great.

Either these Porsche style chrome big oval tips or Fabspeed's true oval tips can be installed on any 996 factory exhaust or on Fabspeed's late model exhaust system.

I don't know what the changes are for 2001 but I have seen something that said the new pieces are improved.

Suggestion
Has anyone done any "testing" by replacing the headers and the exhaust at different times?

At somepoint in the year 2000 version 3 996 Maxflo systems had the tooling made so that you can either bolt-on Porsche stock 996 tips or use the Fabspeed tips.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am thinking to get more sound on my 01 cab. Do any of you have fabspeed?? How do you like it?? Also, a co-worker of my just sold his 99' coupe. He is almost giving me his early 99 version of Fabspeed. Is there any different between the 99 version of fabspeed and the brand new one.
TIA
I have the Fabspeed exhaust and headers, circa early 2000. I like the sound and I picked up a few HP according to the dyno. I don't know what the changes are for 2001 but I have seen something that said the new pieces are improved. Give them a call and ask them.

Hi this is Rick from Fabspeed Motorsport. The only significant differences in 996 Maxflo performance mufflers we have made is that very very early versions has round 4" tips. 2nd generation Fabspeed 996 systems had 4.5" true oval tips that are edge welded pieces of artwork that were still welded to the outlet pipe. At somepoint in the year 2000 version 3 996 Maxflo systems had the tooling made so that you can either bolt-on Porsche stock 996 tips or use the Fabspeed tips. For 8/2001 Fabspeed offers exact copies of the Porsche $895 chrome tips for only $295. Either these Porsche style chrome big oval tips or Fabspeed's true oval tips can be installed on any 996 factory exhaust or on Fabspeed's late model exhaust system. They are available separately too.
The only other thing we have developed for exhaust for the 996 cars ......is hiperformance T304SS 996 headers for these cars. These beauties still 100% comply with factory warranty and 50 state emissions laws and are a simple bolt-on improvement. The price has come down alot on 996 headers. Have a great day
I got the Fabspeeds on my 99 C2 coupe. They have a nice throaty sound while under load and do not get to loud till the tach swings past 4000 rpm's.
Mine are the 2001 models. The factory tips bolted right up though alignment can be the most difficult thing (difficult but not impossible). I would certainly buy them again.
I have the Fabspeed headers/exhaust on my '00 996 cab.
The improvement in general sound at idle, low revs and at power is significant. The system is significantly louder than stock but only to the degree that the Porsche sounds like a sports car again rather than a Lexus. Don't worry, you won't be competing with the rice-burners on the street unless YOU decide to! (i.e. wide open throttle).
Fit and finish are great - no issues at all.
Fabspeed mention in their advertising that the system 'sounds like a Ferrari F355 when at full throttle' - sorry guys, it doesn't. It sounds great, but it definitely doesn't sound like a Ferrari. (my previous two cars were F355's with Tubi's so I'm speaking from experience here...)
Definitely recommended if you want your Porsche to sound like a sports car. Enough said.
Graham
I got them on 2000 996 the week I got my car.
Put them on myself...never looked back.
Great sound...(It sounded like a lexus before).
I got mine before they came out with the oval tips so I have the round ones..that was the only draw back (If you think that is a draw back..looks fine to me!)
And you got to love it in a tunnel...Ohhh..baby!
Hello, I have a 2001 C2 as well. I bought my car with a few miles on it and the previous owner had already installed a Gambella exhaust which I think sounds great. I wouldn't mind a little more power or sound so I am wondering what the effect of adding headers would do in terms of either. Has anyone done any "testing" by replacing the headers and the exhaust at different times? Thanks.
If you want more sound, pull the mufflers off and just run straight through pipes...
or remove your old muffler, cut them open and weld the inlet and outlet tubes together so you get a straight through pipe.
The stock items, have the inlet tube going into a resonator box, with the outlet on the opposite end...and they are not joined
