I like the way the Porsche lights adjust upwards when first switched on but even that has packed up and I'm back in VW 6v mode.

I did change the bulbs for bluish ones so that may be the prob.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been brought up on a diet of german cars. My dad had a Borgward and I've gone from VWs 6v to 12v Vws to Motorsport BMWs and now a litronic 996. They all have rubbish headlights. I like the way the Porsche lights adjust upwards when first switched on but even that has packed up and I'm back in VW 6v mode. What was impressive recently was a high speed blowout on rear o/s and car pulling up in virtually straight line. Reassuring. Is there a fuse that controls the motors in the headlights ? Fantastic car, excluding the lights.

POST 2Original post

I think the Aryan Race believed they could see in the dark...

POST 3Original post

I must have missed that race. Who won? :flag1:

POST 4Original post

Totally agree, in fact I have a 1956 Series One Land Rover that I converted to quartz lights a few years ago at a cost of about £16 and its now noticeably better than the 911!

POST 5Original post

Sorry, I think I'm missing something here; my headlights (Litronics) are perfectly fine? In fact, the full beam is downright fierce! What's the problem again...? :dont know:

POST 6Original post

I have to agree. When I first bought the car, I spent 5 mins trying to deselect full beam until I realised they weren't on full beam! Also had M' cars before with xenons and the litronics should be a huge improvement.

POST 7Original post

I also agree with Ant; The Litronics on mine are superb, the best dipped beam light spread i have ever used. The full beams light up the road something amazing... might be worth getting the level checked and maybe change the bulbs, you can pick up new single osram bulbs pretty cheap, just be sure to get the right model. there are some that are alot bluer and no where near as bright as the std 4300k ones... Cheers

POST 8Original post

I agree too. What amazed me most was how much more light you get in abnormal conditions - snow etc. However, one thing that I did notice is that as they are a gas discharge system, the lenses don't get as hot. If the car is left outside overnight with a heavy frost, the beam is diminished unless you manually scrape the ice off. I once had to stop at the motorway service station as I thought the headlights had failed, only to discover they were still frosted over !

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok, thanks for that. I did change the bulbs for bluish ones so that may be the prob. I love it's party trick of self levelling. Always impresses the neighbours. The dip beam not doing it's thing and just picks out low flying ants so an issue there too. Good to know the lights are fine for others. Cheers Dave

POST 11Original post

No problems with mine or my wife's VW Touareg's lights.

POST 12Original post

"His'n'Hers" Touaregs, nice. Of course you know they aren't actually German. They are built in Bratislava, Slovakia.
