I had the B&M shifter installed so I can't speak to the ease of installation, but I do like the improvement in shifting for the track.

Just wanted some feedback to current 996 owners who installed the b&m shortshift kit and how easy is it to install. The original seems fine with me but if majority say its better I mite want to try one myself. What does notchy mean -saw that previously for shortshift kits. Ne info would be appreciated. Thanks

I had the B&M shifter installed so I can't speak to the ease of installation, but I do like the improvement in shifting for the track. With the stock shifter I was prone to miss third gear on downshifts. Since I've had the short shifter, not only are my shifts quicker, I don't miss third anymore. This is a real confidence builder to know you can go into a corner in the right gear every time. Karl

Hello, I recently purchased and installed the B+M on a 2001 Carrera. I found the installation fairly straight forward and the shifting is much more precise. I do not find it "notchy" in an shifting except for reverese gear, where it feels "tight". I have driven the car at the track and actually find getting into third a little tough as the shift pattern is so tight I ended up back in first on two occassions. That could have been somewhat due to the lack of adequate seating where I was "flying" around inside the car and did not maintain much poise in one particular area where that problem occured. Overall, its the best improvement in drivability for under $500 you can get!

Thanks to everyone for your insite and for ne future responses. I'm pretty much decided to jump into the bandwagon and goe ahead and have it installed and since i'm all thumbs a porsche mechanic will install for me. take care. mike
