Anyway bit the bullet and spring replaced (£150) rather than straight to new clutch and it has made a big difference (it was broken in 3 places).

I checked around and got conflicting views on whether this could be the cause (alternative being the clutch is on the way out).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My recentlly acquired 996 C2 Facelift 2002 MY had a heavy clutch - my local OPC (Hatfield) suggested it could be a broken assist spring which is located high up under the dashboard (or course you can't check it in situ). I checked around and got conflicting views on whether this could be the cause (alternative being the clutch is on the way out). One garage saying they had never heard of it breaking. Anyway bit the bullet and spring replaced (£150) rather than straight to new clutch and it has made a big difference (it was broken in 3 places). One to consider if anyone else is suffering from a heavy clutch....

POST 2Original post

There are some that like to remove the spring assist altogether in order to get back a bit more feel in the clutch. That does make the clutch heavier I'm told and that is consistent with how you described your situation. I gather you thought the clutch was too heavy and needed the extra assistance of the spring.

POST 3Original post

I had the same situation last year, my spring was totally thrashed so I was building up the muscles in my knackered left leg ( ski accident), but was really glad when I had the spring replaced. Less leg stress now M :thumb:
