Suggestion

Update - my petrol flap is not locking, and when I use the manual unock loop (behind the door) it does seem to affect the noise...Could it be linked to the motor that is trying to lock the petrol flap...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Recently purchased a 2001 boxster s with 22k and full Porsche service history. I have notices a strange loud wiring noise From around the fuel cap. Sounds a bit like a struggling pump or fan. It can do it after being parked overnight. Weirdly it stops when I open the front boot??? Any ideas?

Update - my petrol flap is not locking, and when I use the manual unock loop (behind the door) it does seem to affect the noise...Could it be linked to the motor that is trying to lock the petrol flap...

POST 3Original post

amazing it didnt kill the batt...so i`ll guess its not the fuel pump running all night. is it quiet if you dont lock the car ?

POST 4Original post

Mystery solved! And it a tale of woe Turns out a rodent had got under the hood and chewed the foam around the rain water drain. This led to water flooding under the passenger seat and messing up the computer under the seat. This had set the locking motors to go nuts. Dried out the floor (by drilling holes in the floor) then things went bad to worse. Can't lock the car, can't start it and the little computer is finished. Now nee the drainage fixed which me and roof and seats out (labour costs!) a new CPU ($€$) and two new keys!! £900 all because of Roland rat!
