Defnitely worth making sure radiator area is clean though that may also be less of an issue with the C4S bumper.

Suggestion

I was lucky to get a car with a switchable PSE fitted and I have to say it is the best part of the car, giving it two personalitys at a switch of a button is just fantastic  I have done a CAI mod, there is a lot of feeling on here that it will not give any increase in BHP and they do have a good point but I have to say for a £55 tube and a homemade blank there has been a verry noticable diffrence from 4k it just pickes up and feel to run away with it's self.

I'll be using it for every day use, won't be taking it on any track days and I won't be plastering it with any extra wings, graphics or any other tacky mods.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Took me around 4 months to find one I was truly happy with and that ticked almost all the boxes. But I got there in the end and I'm as happy as Larry! I've posted a pic here in the Newbie section - http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=58448 I'll be using it for every day use, won't be taking it on any track days and I won't be plastering it with any extra wings, graphics or any other tacky mods. Although I wouldn't mind adding a few additional, subtile, bits and pieces just to personalise it. Now I realise that there are pages and pages of useful information on here and I plan to have a good read through at some point. But if you wouldn't mind giving this newbie a crash course on tweeking all things CS4 or pointing me in the right direction just to get me started, I'd be most grateful! :thumb: I'm thinking about adding parking sensors, an iPod connection for the PCM and I'd probably best get a laser jammer (do these things actually work) as I plan to have fun with this car! I'm also a bit confused with the switchable exhausts. I take it these are an aftermarket fit or are they fitted as standard? I don't have a button for this in the cabin so I'm taking it that it's aftermarket only? Thanks, and looking forward to spending some time on here! :worship:

POST 2Original post

Congrats on the new purchase and welcome. I put together a few good to know things at this link. http://www.oz951.com/public/996newbie.htm Yours being a later car probably wont experience some of those issues like leaking coolant tanks. Defnitely worth making sure radiator area is clean though that may also be less of an issue with the C4S bumper. There are also lots of good porsche knowledge links on the bottom of my main page as per my signature block link. I had a PSE exhaust on my last car with no switch. That just means it was permenantly in 'sports sound mode' and that is perfectly fine. Cheers

POST 3Original post

Congratulations! looks mint - are they techart rims? If you plan to have fun - then you MUST have KW's fitted  PSE is aftermarket at OPC, but there's plenty of threads here on how to reach a similar noise, without having to deal with an OPC. Switchable is the way forward IMO coz if you need to turn it off, just pop the relay back in.... have fun - maybe see you on some of the meets??

POST 4Original post

Congratulations, nice car looks good in black. :thumb:

POST 5Original post

Hi, welcome to 911UK and 996 / 911 ownership! :bye: Looks good in black; do you know what those alloys are, are they TechArt, A.N.Other or are they the optional ones I've seen on some 996 turbos (ie OEM Porsche alloys)?

POST 6Original post

I think those wheels are called Sport Techno or Turbo Techno they were an option for 2004 model cars. They are in the Hardback Brochure that i have listed for sale on this site, it may be something you would be interested in ABZ911.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

PSE, OPC, KW....... woah-woah-woah...... easy lads, newbie remember! They're 18" Sport Techno alloy wheels, or at least that's what they were advertised as by the dealer.

POST 8Original post

Nice looking 911 ! Love the wheels :thumb: Welcome to 911uk

POST 9Original post

Welcome to the pit. Vehicle looks great. Enjoy. They are a good bunch on here and very very knowledgeable. In fact scarily knowledgeable. Enjoy the car for a little while and then decide what to do to it (IMHO)

POST 10Original post

Lovely looking car, I'm two months into my first 996 and every day is still a special as the first, keep reading this site I have gaind a lot of usefull knowlage from these guys. For me the next thing will be to upgrade the CD player to a Pioneer Avic unit.

POST 11Original post

Congratulations. I have almost exactly the same car, so I've got to say good choice! (Standard Turbo wheels and already got rear park on mine) I got it almost exactly a year ago, have gone from 58 to 76 K miles (so a bit more miles than yours) and so far (other than servicing tyres and a bit of oil) the only replacements have been front discs and the light switch. Theoretically there is a "big" service due at 48K (plugs, filters etc on top of the usual major) but as it is over 4 years old it might have already been done - worth checking.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers guys. A real friendly, helpful bunch in here! :thumb: I've had a good trawl through here and I keep seeing 'Geometry Set up' being mentioned. Anyone care to tell me what this is, is it just another name for 'wheel alignment'? I'm really interested in the switchable PSE (thanks HarryH!) but it looks like megabucks to fit these days and I've also got a years warranty with the car so I'm not sure how that would affect that if I was to do down the modding route? Are there any bolt on, switch versions or can I only go about it by welding in a permanently opened bypass? (I know someone's going to say you won't want to switch it off but I really like the thought of the option to do this!) My car also has a Litronic System, anyone care to shed some light on this? (Pun intended) Is this standard? I'm also missing the Bose system I had in my old TT. Is it possible to retro-fit one from a breakers yard? Anyone done this? Or is it easier to go upgrading what I've got with a.n.other?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The blurb from the dealer I bought it from reads: "Car was serviced last at Porsche Leicester - 13/8/2010 @ 43624 miles Had: Major Service, Brake Fluid, Spark Plugs, Long Life Condition Inspection, Rear Main Oil Seal Replacement (quite common and expensive to rectify) and a few sundry items such as wiper blades. Total cost of this work around £2500." I'm guessing that covers the 48k one?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
