Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had a strange issue today went to unlock the car in the garage and dispite the key having plenty of battery and led flashing away the car did not respond? Tried a few times and nothing so went and got the spare which again the car did not respond to, put the key in the lock and it unlocked the door but the alarm / immobiliser was still flashing away on the dash so I did not open the door and re-locked it. Tried the key fob again and now (on both keys) the car immediately locks and unlocks as normal?! So if the keys some how lose sync with the immobiliser does activating the door lock re-pair them? Alls perfect with the car now and it's never done it before just wondered what had caused it?

POST 2Original post

The car receiver (and other circuits) go into "sleep" mode after 5 days. To wake, simply unlock car using key in lock. The car will awake, lock/unlock using remote again to turn off alarm. If key fob is at fault (or no battery), you have 20 secs to turn on ignition after opening door before alarm goes off and it will be disarmed. If your fob is either unsynchronized or dead it requires a replacement and is about £85 including reprogramming. IF the fob is unsync'd, you can check/reset using one or more of the following: The remote uses a normal button (CR) battery like many calculators, watches etc. CR-2032 (20mm diameter by 3.2 mm thickness) I think they are £1-£2 from Wilkinsons, Boots WHSmith etc Just carefully prise open fob and swap over. I think it is easier to align rubber button downwards and then click "lid" over the PCB. Otherwise I found that doing it the other way resulted in the "lid" (the other lid this time!) not quite aligning with PCB, leaving a gap. Porsche advise any remote range of 5 ft or less suggests new battery is required. RESET PROCEDURE Reset by manually unlocking the car door and whilst the key is still in the door, press the button, lock/unlock button. This re-syncs the electronics if it is time that has caused the car to forget the remote. As the remote uses a rolling code (new code every lock cycle) if the remote sender has been activated more than 256 times and less than 1024 times with the receiver out of range or while the vehicle battery is disconnected the unit must be resynchronized as follows: - Switch on the ignition (ignition key must have the correct transponder). - Switch off the ignition. - Remove the key and press the remote sender button within 6 seconds after the ignition key has been removed The activation counter will then be reset to zero. If the fault lies with the remote, you can reset the remote fob's chip by inserting the button battery in reverse (wrong way round) for a couple of seconds. (ie -+, +-) If none of those work, you probably need a new remote!

Thankyou GT4! That was exactly the explanation I was looking for, must have shut it self into sleep mode as its been a week since I last used the car, Thanks again Simon
