Man turns up to check the car over for 20 mins or so, money straight into my account when he gives them the okay.

I like it because I don't have to worry about cleaning every insect off after a summer evening blast to prevent them etching the paint.

It's my first post on here so hello to everyone.
It's been a month since I ordered my 718 GT4 PDK. It's my first Porsche and I'm coming from a tastefully modified BMW M4 Competition Pack DCT.
The spec I've gone for is:
Gentian Blue Metallic
Black leather interior
Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox
Chrono Package and preparation for lap trigger
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
20-inch 718 Cayman GT4 wheels in satin platinum
Tyre sealing compound and electric air compressor
Electrically folding exterior mirrors including courtesy lighting
Full bucket seats
Smoking package
Silver grey seat belts
Steering column casing in leather
BOSE® Surround Sound System
I didn't go too crazy on the spec. I suppose the carbon brakes were my guilty pleasure - they just look so darn good!
I had to sign the import duty letter. I have made it clear that I won't be paying the import duty should there be any of significance and at which point I would cancel the order (so long as the order is not in lockdown) and get my deposit back. I just can't bare the thought of possibly paying an extra £9000 in duty!
Just the waiting game now. The dealer is estimating April time. Fingers crossed for this bloody import duty threat to go away.
Congratulations on your allocation but good luck getting the car locked for build after Dec 31st it will be earlier than that especially if you ordered a month back.

I spoke to the dealer today and they said that they haven't been given their next allocation yet. Apparently I'm number two on the list so I'm assuming I'll be part of the next allocation they get. Hopefully they reach a Brexit trade deal and there is no import duty or say just a couple of percent. As mentioned It's my first Porsche so I'm not really up to speed on the ordering timelines. Thanks for the info though.

ps take this off "Steering column casing in leather" :-)
Whats so bad about the about steering column casing in leather? To be fair I have deliberated over it.

Congratulations on your slot, if I can be so bold as to make a comment about your spec? Two things which are really useful and in my opinion quite important down the line for resale are Cruise and Parking sensors - neither are expensive and a heck of a lot
More useful than say a leather steering column

so you have not ordered one yet, thought as much ;-), hope you get the allocation once released to the OPC's.
I am awaiting the next round of allocations before I choose what to go for. 4.0 GTS though I think for me.
as for the part, it gives a crazy reflection in the dash if you spec it, very unpleasant.

Yes, I see what you mean about the reflection. I'll be removing that - thanks for the heads up. You say that I have not ordered one yet and yet I have have a signed new car order form from dealer????

Id of gone for the * Dashboard trim package in leather as well for 700ish quid to match your steering column as well.

I get what you say about the resale value but I never use them (cruise and parking sensors) on my M4 and if I don't keep this car then I'm going to find myself single again!!
Think I'm going to lose the leather steering column though.
Congrats on the allocation, had your name down long?
I'd add the cruise and parking sensors personally, cruise is great on the motorways with all the average cameras, and there is a wing blocking your rear view
Congratulations, Gentian is a great colour but be warned it does mark very easily. I'd definitely consider PPF or decent detailing prior to or as close to as collection.
My CGTS is same colour and depending on the light it changes quite significantly.

Worth mentioning on top of what 911R has already rightly said is I would advise not to go for the extended leather dash option at c £1000 as it includes stitching on the dash around chrono clock and at the base of the windscreen too which causes reflections .
You may not have specced this and just to be clear it is in addition to the standard extended leather which gives you edge dashboard and door top stitching which really is enough in terms of spec on a GT4.
Whether you can see steering column stitching reflections are set up specific - column height, column extension, seat height, seat distance from the wheel, your height etc.
I have the leather steering column and I can't see any reflections when sat in the car.
Congrats. I don't mind about the cruise control but would recommend reverse aids, the car will feel different from M4 especially when backwards. If you only park at farm lands then don't worry about it.
Your salesman should have an estimate freeze date and you can add another month for it to exit factory and maybe 3 weeks for UK customs clearance. That's assuming all goes to plan which you can only wish. Mine is expected around year end which is an irritating feeling.
Looks like a great spec to me.
Defo need reversing aids. Cruise. Speed limit display.
I have leather steering column on my car and no reflections. I think it looks great with it but would spec the above before it.

I haven’t had any issues with my steering column in leather. 911R’s picture is of a Spyder with the roof down, so not a fair reflection of what it would be like in a GT4

When I heard that there was going to be more availability for this GT4 than the last generation I just popped into my local Porsche dealer (Leicester), specced the car, signed the order form, paid the £5000 deposit and was told to expect my car around April time next year.

What is the minimum amount of PPF I can get away with do you think?
Thank-you everyone for all of the valuable information. As mentioned in my first post this is my first Porsche so I feel a bit in the dark around the ordering process, delivery, allocations, what to spec etc.
If you struggle to sell it privately and want a decent trade price, check out wizzle.co.uk, just sold my base 718 Cayman there for a chunk more than the Porsche garage offered.
Man turns up to check the car over for 20 mins or so, money straight into my account when he gives them the okay. No tyre kickers to deal with
One thing you might want to consider is dual climate control, it's a £539 option. Some people say you don't need it but I'd say it's worth it over the steering column leather option and also do think about cruise control. I've used cruise more in my GT4 than I did in any other car.
ScottyM4CP said:

just the side skirts.
or if you really want do the front bumper and side skirts. which is all I did on my 981 GT4 and that was tracked and was fine.
depends if you are renting it over the time you have it or want to own the car.
If you are on a finance deal and plan to move it on once up save your £££
Never bother with overpriced ppf which can give issues over time and depending on degree of possible stone/rash damage can actually look worse.
If you use your cars constantly through the winter on heavily gritted roads or live in Scotland it may be worth considering but otherwise a complete waste of money imo.

Agreed, although a bit of road rash on dark coloured metallic cars can be very obvious and look nasty. On White, Guards Red or Racing Yellow it's less of a problem IMHO.
def do the side skirts on GT4's it's only about £300.
they have no protection or hard finish like a GT3 or even a Cayman R, it's smooth paint to the bottom and chips like a ****
PPF comes down to the installation. Best to check the installer and samples of their work.
It can take looking after but you do protect the paint from chips.
I'm getting front and sills when my car arrives.

I think PPF is worth it for the peace of mind. Hot Cup 2s throw up gravel like nothing else.
I have full front PPF on my GT4. I like it because I don't have to worry about cleaning every insect off after a summer evening blast to prevent them etching the paint.

i bought mine with PPF fitted to the whole car which i only noticed when i first washed the car
the car is nearly 6 years old now and the film is still pretty much damage free, so the paint beneath should be pristine. i've had the car 4 years and use it all year round.

they etch the PPF !!! I was shocked but my PPF now looks crap with bug etchings.

Think a ceramic coating is needed also. Also wash the car every 2 weeks to keep the car clean from build up of dirt, dust, tar etc

Strange then. I’ve not had that problem with ceramic. Usually damp cloth or microfibre towel to wipe away poo etc.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding wizzle. I do have a private buyer who is on the verge of buying M4 which would leave me in a Nissan Qashqai until the GT4 arrives.
Think I'm going to lose the steering column casing in leather and add the rear parking sensors. What sort of price do you guys reckon for PPF on the front bumper and sills?
Can I ask those who have PCCB's do you regret speccing them or are they worth every penny? I don't think my GT4 will see a track so for me it's spirited road use.

I got quoted between £575 and £650. Not sure I’m going to bother tbh. The other issue is whether the front bumper PPF will come off if I change my stick on plate

Much discussed subject on Porsche GT threads.
An expensive option on a £75k car.
The 981 saw little uplift in value perhaps £2k if you specced ceramics as an expensive option basically because most buyers wanted steels unlike 991.2 GT3s where the difference is greater than the option cost.
The steels are perfectly good for road use on a GT4 and come with much lower maintenance costs particularly as the car ages.
Some like ceramics for their yellow rotas lol, some spec due to no brake dust build up and no rust on discs and a few spec due to less unsprung weight but this results in little gain on a GT4 especially for road use.
^ what av185 said.
In the vice-versa of your question I specced steels and have zero regrets. The car I drove at PEC had PCCBs and the only difference I've noticed is the increased servo assistance on the ceramics car which makes brake modulation a little trickier.
I personally prefer the feel of steels and would spec them on any Porsche if possible, including GT3RS etc if I was a 911 fan.
The PCCB are great for fast road use, everything you would expect. The only downfall for me is they squeak loud when they are hot, especially coming back into town where they would embarrass you coming up to halt signs, I give them 10 mins to cool which stops it, not a peep out of them tootling about or motorway speeds.

An alternative opinion, I have them on my GT4 and have had them on several previous Porsches, I rate them they have far more feel, they are very powerful and you can really control the braking. I think Ceramic brake modulation is far better than steel. You do also get the benefit of little or no brake dust, the downside is cost should you have a problem as well as the initial cost.
I must admit there is nothing wrong with Porsche steel brakes.
I suggest you try both before you need to lock down the spec.
All IMO, as you see it is very personal.

I find all Porsche GT brakes squeal whether ceramics or steels.
The manuals confirm this is perfectly normal.

Yes, everything I've read confirms it, it's not a prob now as I know how to manage it. Cheers.
Thanks for all the informative comments and opinions guys. I think the only thing that I'm a little concerned about is the maintenance of the PCCB's. I'll only be doing around 3000 miles in the GT4 per year so is this something I needn't worry about?
Personally, I dont feel the carbon brakes are worth it, as much as I like the look of them, I'll be tracking the car about 50:50 anyway, so decided to go with the steels.
Also kind of thinking I may save the money and not bother with PPF...
PCCB to me help lift the look of the car and it hardly generates brake dusts. That's where the benefits end. Expensive for what it is but we can't make sense of many other things.
If you spec it you might regret spending the extra money, if you didn't you might regret buying the car. I would suggest If you ever hesitated then go for it.
The steels do have a very different pedal feel compared to the PCCB`s
The steels also need quite some temperature in them for adequate breaking.
On the street I do prefer the pedal feel of the PCCB`s, with all other advantages posted earlier
That's why I ordered the PCCB`s on my coming PDK GT4

I have had PCCB and steels on previous GT cars (both GT3 and 981). Personally for the looks and brake dust alone I would go PCCB. People will tell you about unsprung mass etc but not sure that the average driving mortal would notice the difference. If you track it all the time - maybe go steels as cheaper to replace long term. For road use and the odd track day - PCCB shouldn’t wear out in normal lifetime of the car.

Likewise, just didn’t see the value in PCCB and tbh if I was buying second hand I wouldn’t seek out one with them. PPF seems way too dear for what it is - not going to bother

It was in actually selling my old Cayman that made me think about not bothering with PPF, as I was getting it ready I noticed it had so few stone chips, and that money will instead pay for far more track time, consumables, etc

I didn't want rear park assist, my sales guy strongly recommended it, in particular with the camera. - I yielded and can say I glad I did, visibility is not great out of the rear, the camera is great and aids in avoiding ripping the rear diffuser off on items that perhaps the sensors would not pick up.

Yes I do, pruduction in that week, meaning starting November 30th
The car wil get its registration plates end of this year, i will save me a lot of tax money in the Netherlands, I wil pick it up early 2021
Should be finally collection the GT4 PDK a week today. I've been told my car is not affected by the recent conn rod issue - thank goodness. I do feel for those who have been affected though.
I can't quite make my mind up whether to let Leicester OPC remove the external protective wrapping and present the car as they would normally do or ask them not to touch it and present it to the detailers as it was when it left the Porsche factory.
It would be nice to collect it gleaming from the showroom but would then run the risk of swirls if not washed with care at the dealer. Opinions/experiences welcome.

Let them present it as they should then the retailers will sort, they will have to anyway to apply the ppf, are you from Leicester? I used reep for all my cars, speak to Pete.

Thanks Carl. Yes I'm in South Leicestershire. I do know Pete from Reep. I was one of his first customers at the Wigston studio around 5yrs ago when they did my M4. Unfortunately his quote was way off for the GT4 this time round.
