Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I’m throwing this out there just for opinion. Looking at the NHP style of muffler bypass for the 996, it offers significantly greater area and length of piping, routing the bypass pipes right where the factory muffler would be and allowing for factory tip installation. I wonder with the extra piping if it helps reduce drone and other unwanted noise. My theory if I combine that with my 200 cell X pipe, it will very much sound cup car like. Has anyone run this setup, and is it actually tolerable vs the shorter bypass pipes? I remember a company After Hours Exhaust, they did something similar but with resonators.

POST 2Original post

Question about 2nd cat muffler bypass system from Schnell. http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/2...t%20Pipes.aspx The idea of the system is to bypass the muffler running straight pipe from 2ndary catalytic converter all the way to muffler tip. This kit costs just under $300. Wonder if a muffler shop can mandrel bend some piping to run straight pipe from 2ndary catalytic converter directly out to the rear bumper exit. A lot of weight can be saved by ditching the entire muffler assembly by simply bolting on a straight pipe. Can this be done? Will removing or bypassing the muffler affect the performance of car (reduced back pressure)?

POST 3Original post

These do not bypass or replace the muffler. They bypass the catalytic converter. Contact Vertex for details.

POST 4Original post

You A) would lose noticeable performance due to excessive loss of back pressure and B) you would likely be extremely unhappy with the "louder than allowed at a race track" noise level. Additionally you would likely get stopped every day by the police for an illegal exhaust system and never pass California emissions. Secondary cat. by-pass pipes do not eliminate the muffler.
