This issue was driving me crazy for months on both cars.

I have finally adjusted my driving style to prevent the problem.

Sounded more like a clunk (and no it wasn't trunk clunk-- had that too but it was repaired).

I ended up replacing the clutch in the camaro and resurfacing the flywheel.

Need to get my oil changed so I will have my mechanic look at it when in the shop.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I did a search and can't quite find if this has been covered. OK, here is my best description (just lick taking the car to a mechanic after it stops making the noise). When letting out the clutch real easy or slow like when trying to creep forward at a light, something in the undercarriage (transmission, exhaust, ???) rattles. It only does this when going very slow, only in first, and is really bad when trying to pull into my garage. We live on the side of a hill, so our driveway has a slight slope to it, after a drive (the car would be nice and warm), when I pull into the garage, the car makes the most horrible world coming to and end rattle, and even shakes the car a little. Anyone have a clue what this is? It's annoying at the house, but embarrasing in town!
By the way, this is a 07 Boster base with the 6 speed transmission.
It sounds like the engine might be lugging a bit due to too low if RPMs. Do you happen to know what your RPMs are when this occurs? I bet if you gave it a little more gas you might find that the rattle/vibration might subside.
certainly it goes away with RPM, but what is actually rattleing? I have never owned a stick that does something like this. Normally you are at a light, people are looking and listening, then it happens. Makes the car sound like it's falling apart. There has to be something that is loose, or moving around enough to hit something else isn't it? Or is this something internal in the motor, and i just need to rev the $hit out of it an burn the clutch?
I've had my Cayman for 4 weeks and it's been at the dealer for service 4 times and 7 days. I had a noise -- not a rattle -- letting the clutch out in 1st gear, in reverse and on any tight turns. Sounded more like a clunk (and no it wasn't trunk clunk-- had that too but it was repaired). The tech DID hear it but can't find it or fix it. He was on the phone with Porsche today when I called to check on the car.
Hi P-Dub,
My 5-speed base Cayman has the exact same problem - a loud metallic knocking at low revs. If you attempt to show 'sympathy' to the clutch it is unavoidable - otherwise excessive clutch slip is required. Someone suggested that it is a pink, it is a similar sound but too loud in my opinion.
Did anyone ever get this resolved?
John
Same here...thought my exhaust was loose at first but found that with a little more throttle it is not a problem. Checked out the other thread as well which may be an option but for me it is not bad enough to start messing with the electronics...I only have about 800 miles on mine so far so maybe it might get worse but for now I will just mention it to my dealer. Let me know if you make the mod and if it works. I do admit that a car like this should not make this type of sound.....a little disappointing.
This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. While creeping up to a stop sign, sounded like I was dragging the exhaust.
Looked under the car and couldn't see anything, and drove off and haven't heard anything since.
I just started experiencing this as well. Only started once the weather started warming up. No real performance issues and it doesn't happen all of the time. Need to get my oil changed so I will have my mechanic look at it when in the shop. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?
This was occurring on my 2006 Cayman S and my '96 Chevy Camaro Z28 with aftermarket clutch. Much worse in my Camaro. I ended up replacing the clutch in the camaro and resurfacing the flywheel.
This issue was driving me crazy for months on both cars. Here is my best guess on why it happened...
I began slipping the clutch less and less on both cars. I was trying to baby them. The Camaro developed terrible chatter first. I would have to either let the clutch out slowly with the engine idle or tease the clutch at high revs. If it grabbed to hard it would chatter badly. I had to drive both cars like this. I found that as long as I avoided the chatter then the problem started to subside a bit.
I have finally adjusted my driving style to prevent the problem.
Some guys at a clutch shop told me it's because the clutches are designed for performance and they don't do well with very light use. You have to slip them and work them a bit for the material to work as designed.
It's not bothering me on my Cayman anymore. The Camaro has a high performance clutch and I can tell it has a tendency to chatter.
funny timing, i just noticed this yesterday myself and it had me wide eyed. after speaking with a buddy with a CS, he mentioned it might help if i bled my clutch. not terribly worried about this as i'm still under CPO but i'll def be keeping an eye (and ear) on this.
Mine makes the same exact sound but only when it's cold after a short a drive and everything is up to temp it stops so I just take off at relatively high RPMs when the car is cold to avoid the rattle.
