Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Lately - once in a while - when I'm closing the top on my Boxster - the latch that locks the forward edge of the roof to the windshield surround makes a pop/snapping sort of noise as I'm locking it, and sort of jumps a bit. It only does it once in a while, but it doesn't feel right, and it didn't do it prior to about 2 weeks ago. I've tried lubricating the latch assembly - and it moves very smoothly and easily if I cycle it without the roof being entirely closed. There doesn't seem to be excessive play in it. I also lightly lubricated the two holes in the windshield header that the nubbies on the ends of the roof slip into. Anyone else had this? Any thoughts on the cause? TIA!

POST 2Original post

It's sounds like a slight alignment issue. If you don't get it looked at you will break one of the plastic ball cups on the roof push arms. Not uncommon.

POST 3Original post

Les, is this from experience? What misalignment would cause this? The two end nubbies appear to seat fine into the recesses in the windshield header...

POST 4Original post

The popping noise is coming form the top mechanism - it is making contact with something. I've had several of the plastic ball ends break on mine.

POST 5Original post

I dug around on AllDataDIY, and found the following: I'll have to try assisting it next time. It's entirely possible it may have gotten a set in it since the top is often down for days at a time..

POST 6Original post

The popping noise is coming directly from the latch as it finally releases after pulling the top tight. It is not coming from the mechanism behind the seats.
