Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
I am trying to find an exhaust for my CS and do not want to spend crazy money on it. My goal is to be a bit louder and sound more sporty, I do not want drone. My brother has a 08 vette with a mild to wild system and it drones like a mofo. My goal is to be less than 1500ish spent. I have never bought a performance exhaust or done more than had muffler back put on a vehicle…. I came from truck land! haha
Currently my top choices are carnewal this way my CS remains as stock as possible or at least in the look. I also believe that this exhaust would be easiest for me to install in my garage due to the fact that it is just a stock exhaust with the chambers modified.
My second choice is top gear valved. I have tried to do good research on the company but other than written reviews of people who bought and only how great they are, I have not been able to find much. I think that is a great sign but for everyone to not have a negative about the system seem a bit odd to me and too good to be true.
Thanks for your help!
P.S. I am open to other brands,
The Carnewal is the best option for a limited budget. You mentioned a valved exhaust, I assume your current exhaust is the Sport exhaust with the valve?
ohhhhh no, I didnt even think about that. Without a current valved exhaust can you install a valved one or am I missing parts for it to work???
Thank you for the reply. How is the Carewal?
Paid $900 for a used Borla on my 987.2S. It willl be different on gen 1, but I would think that the throatier, more bass like character should be similar. I am very happy for this price. Carnwell will have a higher pitch, which could be desireable.
I like Gert at Carnewal
However I bought my headers and rear section from
@Soul Performance Products
and couldn't be happier.

The Fabspeed Maxflo Catback System checks all the boxes. Unfortunately now I think they have upped their prices because when I bought it it was around $1500 (now it's almost $2500). So unless you can find a used exhaust system (which is never preferable) and you don't want to spend the extra it's not an option. Just throwing it out there so you're aware of it.
Here’s another vote for the Carnewal.
I installed them on my ‘06 CS and I’ve found that it’s the perfect everyday sound.
I too wanted a system that would install easily (it did except for the exhaust flange bolts that has rusted in place), didn’t drone (it doesn’t), and would last (it’s OEM quality and some aftermarket systems are inferior).
I found a nearly new Fabspeed Maxflow catback from another PCA member at good price who took it off his
Cayman
because his wife didn't like it. I love it. I seen a number of members who have installed various cat-backs, including
PSE
, and taken them off for various reasons. There are used systems available in the market if you look for them (ebay or dismantlers)
Fister -
https://fdmotorsports.net/shop/ols/categories/boxster--cayman
- which sounds like they do the same thing as Carnewal - is $675. Looks stock because it's made from your stock system, they open it up on the top, rearrange the guts then weld it shut again. Optional finishes are available (hi-temp silver paint seems to hold up just fine.)
I have it on my '09 Boxster. No drone at all. Very nice burble at low RPM, and a nice pop-crackle when it shifts (PDK). The former owner of mine had it made up and put it on. To avoid having the car out of service while it was being modified he bought a take-off exhaust from someone and sent that to be modified. He did give me the original stock exhaust that's sitting up in my garage loft. You can find the take-off ones for $200-300 or so.
I have no complaints about the Fister, and like the sound. The wail of the engine in sport mode under hard acceleration is quite intoxicating to hear.
Update: Looked at prices - about the same, but the Fister is US-based, looks like Carnewal is Belgium. Shipping for modification might be expensive and take some time.
Update-II: Nevermind. Just saw on Fister's page: "
NOTE: We do not modify Boxster/Cayman 987.1 (2005-2008).
Bummer - wonder what's different.
One upside to this thread for me - looking at Carnewal's webpage - the used dual tip setup I bought from a member here for $100 was actually a Carnewal one - their list price is about $500. Good deal!
In the good ole USA, the Carnewal modification is licensed to Cantrell Motor Sports.

I really enjoy the fact that all of your updates answered my questions. Thank you for the extremely thorough response! I would have loved to go that route! My 07CS is tip (bought it right after ankle surgery) and does not have sport exhaust or a sport mode sadly…. ALTHOUGH both my wife and I have agreed lately the exhaust sounds a tad bit more aggressive. I have no reasononing to this and no form of measurement though.
I have a used Borla which I installed on my 2007 Cayman S. I loved it but had to remove it two years ago due to increased California emission laws enforcement.. Feel free to get in touch if you're interested
