Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Replaced under warranty by OPC Exeter who infomed me I was the 5th that year with fuel pump failure all of whom had used Tesco 99.

Suggestion
Having said that I used to run 100 Octane fuel in my modified 944 turbo when on the track as an extra margin of error against detonation in the event that I had some kind of issue resulting in a leaner than ideal fuel/air mixture.
Leading evidence: 'Use tesco 99' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run 100 octane fuel in my modified 944 turbo' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Like you I was happy to run my 996 on Tesco 99, having run all my previous (non-porsche) cars on tesco fuel.

However earlier this year I had a fuel pump failure - primed but pumped low pressure insufficient to run the engine.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Almost.
It is technically a racing fuel spec, but some enlightened (read supercar rich areas) have this spec at their local BP.
"BP Ultimate 102"
To be honest, as it goes off quite quick, it is (unsurprisingly) more of a marketing ploy.
Silverstone BP sells it.
Performance wise, I wouldn't expect the extra octane rating of 102 would have much benefit for our Normally aspirated 996s which have the timing tuned for 98 RON. I did some data logging of ignition timing of 98 RON fuel and the timing was pretty stable under load, whereas with 95 the ECU retarded timing under load. I'm not sure I'd feel inclined to fill up with a tank of 102 to see if the ECU has been programmed to advance timing if the knock count from 102 is especially low.

Tesco 99 fuel
Like you I was happy to run my 996 on Tesco 99, having run all my previous (non-porsche) cars on tesco fuel. However earlier this year I had a fuel pump failure - primed but pumped low pressure insufficient to run the engine. Replaced under warranty by OPC Exeter who infomed me I was the 5th that year with fuel pump failure all of whom had used Tesco 99. Since then I have run on Shell V-Power 99 and the car does seem marginally more responsive (probably imagination). Yes it costs more than Tesco but I decided 'once bitten etc'. Again opinion equally divided on supermarket fuel versus Shell/BP/Texaco etc. Pays your pound and takes your choice.
Not a user of Tesco 99 myself (I have two Shell garages within 2-3 miles of my house so have been Optimax / V-Power exclusively for about 10 years now) but would have no hesitation using it if I had to / could...
