I am a bit out of touch now, but my advice would be to check with your insurance company to see if your chosen model is acceptable.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have experience with trackers, have to have one fitted to the 996tts there seems to be a bewildering selction to choose from, :dont know: anyone offer any pros cons of the different brands?? Also any good reputable fitters as the costs seem to vary significantly, Tracker from £174-340 :? Many thanks :worship:

POST 2Original post

Tracker Monitor gets my vote (technically, it gets two votes). If you ever had one before, phone them up and they will fit one for £99 inc VAT as a customer retention deal. If you are thinking of keeping the car for 2.5 years or more, consider the "Lifetime" subscription.

POST 3Original post

I used to have a Tracker Monitor fitted to an Impreza when I was a teenager. At that time there were only a couple to choose from, but even then the bottom of the range Tracker unit was not accepted by my insurance company. I am a bit out of touch now, but my advice would be to check with your insurance company to see if your chosen model is acceptable. It might also be worth doing some online quotes with other insurance companies so that you are not locked into your current insurer if others don't accept your new tracker unit. I agree with the life time subscription option (a mistake I made because I had the car for just over 3 years).

POST 4Original post

I am just about to renew my Tracker sub. How much did you pay for the 'Lifetime' sub? Thanks

POST 5Original post

£325 As long as I keep the car another 186 days I hit break-even.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Guys, GT4 am I right in thiunking that you are saying if you are an existing customer they will fit a new monitor foe £99 all in???? :?: If so awesome. think the lifetime is worth the extra for me as hopefully this is a long term investment  :wack:

POST 7Original post

Correct. Supplied and fitted through Tracker direct (they will appoint local or mobile fitter). Retention dept. is on: 0845 602 2389 EDIT: Just noticed annual subs changed since I took mine out, now only 114 days to break-even. :yahoo: So "Lifetime" also protects against the ravages of inflation as well (obviously).

POST 8Original post

Tracker Monitor here also - £340 for lifetime almost exactly a year ago. As the car I bought already had a tracker in it, they just inspected it for £74. i wasn't a previous customer. I had no idea there was one in when I bought it - so you might get even more lucky.

POST 9Original post

+1 Tracker. I had a unit already in the car when I bought - took it over for similar relatively sensible transfer fee and paid my subs. Then had some problems with false alarms etc, they sent someone out to inspect and in the end change it for a new unit to resolve the problem. All FOC. And I know it works, because on the two occassions the AA have recovered me home after a problem the flatbed has only gone about two miles before my mobile starts ringing with automatic notifications. Brilliant.

POST 10Original post

If a tracker has been fitted in another life, any clue as to where to look. Many thanks

POST 12Original post

No they are hidden, and in various different places even when fitted to the same model of car for obvious reasons. However, in a slight chink in security, they will tell you if a car has one fitted. You will need to provide chassis number AFAIK.

POST 13Original post

You're not supposed to know as then if a mugger hoofs you out at knife/gun point you can't tell them where it is.

POST 14Original post

Agree with all the comments re Tracker. I was told mine didn't have Tracker but I founds the docs in the files. Called them and they confirmed fitment etc. They activated it but only after the inspection and service etc - very professionally done and they fit a new battery to the unit as standard after a certain time. The guys even put the car away in the garage (wife is a bit scarey at reversing...).

POST 15Original post

@GT4 Rang Tracker up today to renew. They asked if I wanted Lifetime so I asked how much, £225 was the response. Interesting, so I said yes as I hope to keep for several years. I asked her to confirm and she did. You watch, I'll flog it next year! Not really, I love it.
