I love the sport button and I actually used the stopwatch for actual drive time on a recent trip to Quebec City, Canada.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I am new to this site and to the Cayman . Stupid question, can the stopwatch be added at a later date. I like the function and look of it on the dash!

POST 2Original post

If you don't order it from the factory then I don't think the wiring harness piece is there for it, or the sport wiring harness pieces for the button or the gateway attachment so it would cost thousands to try to add it later and wouldn't be worth it. If you want it, order it with the car.

POST 3Original post

I have the SC option and while I like what it does for the throttle remapping I really could care less for the stopwatch part of it. I have only used it once and that was only to see if and how it worked. It is useless on the track as you have to start it and hit the lever every time you pass the start finish line. Not accurate but will help to give general guidelines as to what you are doing. It is pretty useless unless you have the PCM . Since I don't have that I can't really tell you more. I am pretty sure you would have to get a new dash to be able to mount it where it is supposed to go. The ECU has all the functionality already loaded and there is a flash from several companies (Softronic, a sponsor here) that you can do that will turn it on and leave it on. You can then have an after market switch added to toggle it on and off.

POST 4Original post

It seems like I remember reading on here a year ago or so that it would cost well over $5000 to add it later. Especially given that it interacts with so many other features of the car. Try some search's on Sports Chrono, dash wart, PASM , etc. There should be plenty of reading on the topic.

POST 5Original post

I'm looking into removing the stop watch from my dash and replacing it with a SPA dual gauge, oil pressure/oil temperature.

POST 6Original post

Mechanically, it's pretty simple to add the "Sport" button and the stopwatch. The real difficulty is that you need a code for the Vehicle Electrical Controller to activate all that functionality, and Porsche will NOT (in no uncertain terms) provide that code if you didn't order the car with that option (voice of experience -- I went through all that a couple of years ago, even with working directly with the local dealer's service manager).

POST 7Original post

Each car has a wiring harness specific to the car. If you don't want to spend thousands on a new one then don't even think about it as Ken said. It isn't about codes. It is useless to most anyway.

POST 8Original post

I have to agree with all the above comments. I have done 6 De's since getting my car and haven't used the timer once. For me it is not ergonomically situated so moving my hand to get to the stalk is a non-starter. And the functionality is limited since you can't store the lap times. I have enough to occupy my mind at 130mph, with being passed, and passing others, that the timer is not high on my priority list.

POST 9Original post

It is a shame that there isnt a button on the steering wheel to press for your lap times, would be so much simpler. I have ordered SC with my new PDK but only to get sport and sports+ engine maps really. The timer would be better as an analogue clock

POST 10Original post

I love the sport button and I actually used the stopwatch for actual drive time on a recent trip to Quebec City, Canada. Since I don't track my car that will probably be my only use for it, to time trips. I have gotten comments on how good it looks though.

POST 11Original post

Does this work for raising the PSM threshold or just throttle mapping w/o the SC option ordered?

POST 12Original post

I read in a post that the sprint booster does a great job and makes a difference versus this package. Does the booster really work. I read the posts and reviews but not too sure.

POST 13Original post

It really does remap the throttle response curve.

POST 14Original post

+1 Totally agree with RobMason. I have it and love it. I guarantee you will be able to tell a difference!

POST 15Original post

Yes it can be added. I just added the Chrono stopwatch clock to my Porsche Panamera . The wiring harness part number is 98161269200. It fit my car but was too short for a Panamera so I had to extend the wires about 18 inches. The dealer charged me 2 hours labor to install the clock ($180 an hour). You can do it yourself if you have the patience and want to save money. Its simply 4 wires (Hot, ground, CAN high and CAN low) they are color coded and connect to the exact same color wires coming out of the back of the radio. Just match them up and connect. Then click the Chrono clock check box in the settings on the LCD to a activate the clock. I got the clock and the dash center vent off Ebay for $275. Be sure to get the right clock. If you dont have sport plus there's no point in getting the stopwatch model unless you're going to upgrade and add sport plus later. Just get the regular clock. It has 2 big hands. The stopwatch only has 1 big hand. The total cost for parts and install was less than $700. Your cost may vary but its definitely cheaper than $5000 lol. However, it would be closer to $3000 if you purchased all new parts and purchased the sports plus and launch control functionality from porsche . I know this because I had sports plus and launch control added to my Panamera but mine was a little cheaper because I got my parts off Ebay.
