I beleive the drag is so great and the need so little for street use porsche recommends the flat position for fuel economy sakes since the added downforce isn't needed for street use.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am considering installing a factory Aero kit but have seen GT3 body kits advertised on the same web site. Is there is a difference??? Can anyone lift the confusion????

POST 2Original post

The factory had a 996 Aerokit that was the same as the GT3 bodykit. For 2001, they added the "Carrera" bodykit which had a smaller rear spoiler that fits the Cabriolet as well. "Cup" Aerokit "Carrera" Aerokit

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay, now it all makes sense. The rear wing bit was the key as the "C" aero kit stated an integrated third brake light. The GT3 wing has no such light. Is $4500 plus shipping($300)a good price for the GT3 aero kit???

POST 4Original post

The other difference is in the front dam. The front dam looks identical on the Aero kit as the GT3's, 3 separate ducts. Though the middle duct on the aero kit is not functional, where as the one on the GT3 is. The aerokits middle duct is blocked out with a piece of molded plastic.

POST 5Original post

This is not correct. The middle duct is as functional as the other two. The Tiptronic version of the 996 has a 3rd radiator right behind it. In fact, as of 2001 Porsche added the third radiator to all 996 models.

POST 6Original post

http://www.porschedriving.com/cars.html is this available? What is this set called?

POST 8Original post

Viken, I think you and roschpe may be both right. I have a 99 C2 manual with factory aero kit option. My front air dam did have a plastic block in it which had to be removed when I upgraded my car to add the third radiator. So perhaps the Tip model with the third radiator got the unblocked version of the air dam but I can say for sure that the manual version has a blocking piece in it. Karl

POST 10Original post

Hmm. I have never noticed an Aerokit front spoiler with a blocked center opening. I am going to make it a point to look at these cars more carefully. Thanks for the clarification.

POST 11Original post

I have a 2000 996 with factory areo kit, and my center "hole" on the front is not open http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/front.jpg

POST 12Original post

C4's don't have the hole in the middle front either. Carlos from Spain 996 C4 Aerokit.

POST 13Original post

addictionms, I noticed from the foto you uploaded that you have adjusted slightly the rearwing for greater downforce. Are you allowed to drive it like that in the street there in the US? Its not legal here in Europe. BTW, I've never seen it in white before, it looks great in white!!! My favorite, along with Ocean Blue Metallic Carlos from Spain.

POST 14Original post

In the US the Porsche manuals say not to run the aerokit wing in anything but the flat position but they don't explain why. I don't know why it would be illegal here unless the cops wanted to claim that it blocks rear vision. I used to adjust mine back to flat everytime after a track event but this year I have been lazy and I just leave it up even when on the street. I haven't had any problems or been pulled over because of it so far. Karl

POST 15Original post

It is not illegal anywhere. It is Porsche's recommendation to keep the spoiler at it's flattest (even) level on the street while adjusting it at will on the track for higher stability at speed. This has nothing to do with law enforcement or automobile codes.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Same was said about my old Bmw e30 m3. I had the evolution wing which was adjustable. The fuel economy was horrific with the wing fully extended on the freeway. I beleive the drag is so great and the need so little for street use porsche recommends the flat position for fuel economy sakes since the added downforce isn't needed for street use. There is no such law in the US. Only in europe. HTH...

POST 17Original post

My manual says the rearwing is ONLY legally homologated for use in the fully flat position. So probably its only here in Europe since we have much stricter homologation laws. You can't even change the size of the wheel (unless its hologated stock for those wheels) without going through whole lot of paperwork and expenses for it to be fully legal Carlos from Spain

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know if there will be an aero kit for 2002 body style. If there is I might as well try ordering it and get the 2002 litronics??

POST 19Original post

At this time, you can order a 2002 with the following options: X76 = Flared rocker panels - $1750 XAG = Rear "Carrera" spoiler - $3390

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
