Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hope some of you experienced guys can shed some light on this for me. As per the title. i will be away for about 2.5 weeks soon, and want to know if my battery can survive. Also what are the effects on the tracker(how long does the tracker battery last?) I ask the question because my M3 battery was stone dead when I returned from a similiar trip last year. I believe the alarm and computer drains the battery pretty quick. Appreciate any enlightenment on this. Cheers. nb: not sure how old the battery is ( poss 2/3 years old ) assume it's been replaced at least once since new. My M3 (02 )battery was still the original till I replaced it last year!

POST 2Original post

With a new high capacity battery (but with Tracker), found no probs at 6 weeks (11.5v). After week 10 it had dropped to about 10.5v, which was uncrankable, but still maintained alarm, tracker and remote entry. Temperature has a bearing too, the colder it is the quicker the voltage loss.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks GT4. appreciate the quick and informative response.

POST 4Original post

I had tracker on both 996's I've owned and was lucky if the batteries lasted more than a week :dont know:

POST 5Original post

This is where a CTEK XS3600 Battery Charger & Conditioner would really come in handy left mine for 2months and was great :thumb:

POST 6Original post

Short answer, yes it will drain. I put mine on the ctek when I go away so I never have to worry about it not starting.

POST 7Original post

Possibly a daft question, but will the alarm still arm and doors lock etc. if you have the bonnet open while the battery is charging?

POST 8Original post

You don't need the bonnet open. Wire up the permanent eyelet connection to the battery then just plug in when you need it. I can take a pic tomorrow if you want.

POST 9Original post

The ctek will work via the cigarette lighter on an 03 car and you can still shut the door to set the alarm

POST 11Original post

Batteries are unpredictable. Until this week my car had no battery problems. On Tuesday I took the car in the morning for a 60 miles round trip with no problems. Came back and then parked the car until few hours later that I went to the supermarket with the kids to get few things. No problems going and coming back... Parked in the driveway to offload the kids and the shopping and 10min later tried to put the car in the garage.... Battery could not crank the car..... All the electrics were working and you could hear the starter motor trying to turn but NADA. Jumped start it with wife's car and put in the garage and connected a charger on overnight but NADA again....Battery was almost dead. I have today replaced it with a Bosch Silver from Halfords (quickest way to get one) and up and running again I had the car locked for 2+ weeks in the recent past with no problems but as I said the battery can go at any time with no notice

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all your replies guys. Great forum

POST 13Original post

have C4s with tracker...she just loves to eat them batteries when i go away. Being stupid I never learn...despite having the car set up I just have to plug in, but I forget and come back 2 weeks later to nothing.... Anyone know what you have to do to get halfords to give you a new battery under the 5yr warranty? I got a Bosch silver 11 months ago but the beloved C4S just ate it....
