My 987.1 is giving me some strange readings on my tire pressures. About once a week is will give me an add air warning for a random tire and it is always -4 lbs. But the tire pressure screen will show that tire to have the correct amount of air. If I go through and reset everything the system goes into learn mode and corrects itself but it will do it again in 5 or 6 days. Any idea what could be causing this? Maybe the in-tire sensors are going bad?
How old are the sensors? The batteries go dead in them with enough time and the sensors must be replaced as they are not serviceable. Wacky readings can be a sign of this and any good tire shop should have a handheld device that can check the sensors to see if they are still good or not
Pretty sure ICNU is correct. My 08 started doing the same thing a couple weeks ago. Needing front tires soon so it will get nee sensors then.
13 years is a really good service life if your 2008 is still on the originals! I've always heard 5-10 years is the average. My 2014 was built 8 years ago last month, so I will likely be proactively replacing mine on the next tire change in about 2 years as well
The sensors need to be activated by motion to "wake up" and a long enough interval between drives will see the TPMS freak out until the car has moved a bit. I'd imagine once they get low on battery they enter sleep more quickly.
I just had to replace the original ones from my 2010 Cayman S, one of the back ones would quit working saying partial monitoring, then start working again, I bought the Huff OEM brand from tpmsdirect, all 4 are about the same price the dealer wants for 1, the is my 2nd set from them, my other wheels have them as well.
I did the back ones five years ago, and I am pretty sure they were originals. The front tires are 8 years old so I would say they are original too. I will replace soon but I hate to. They have about 40,000 miles but lots of tread left.
Probably the TPMS sensors. The ones on my 2007 died a couple of years ago and started giving all kinds of error messages. If you've never replaced them, that's probably the issue. If not, then it's the module in the car (can you say big $).
Started with the same issue a few weeks back. New Huff TPMS/wheels/tires in 2/20. Durametric says all pressures (2.25-2.35 bar) and batteries are good (96 months). No errors in the TPMS system at all. Crazy thing is....I get the "add air" error display with all pressures denoting 29-30 psi at cold. Seem to get the "add air" display after 1-2 hours of sitting even after a complete reset learning cycle. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary toggling thru the Durametric list.....temperature, voltage, etc. No other system error codes. Normal battery level at 12.4 volts at rest. Any thoughts?
