Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Seems that by running the wire from the power take off, you can get the unit to live immediately adjacent to the rear view mirror which is fairly protected from prying eyes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Living in Virginia I did not actually do this, but I am told that it might be a good idea.
Go to Berkley Johnson's Boxster page that has exact directions and pictures on which wire to tap and where the wire is located. I must admit to loosing his site address. Seems that by running the wire from the power take off, you can get the unit to live immediately adjacent to the rear view mirror which is fairly protected from prying eyes. The remote read out can be placed anywhere. Below the radio seems to work out with much fuss or muss.
I am sure there are others who have other ideas. Like I say, being in VA, I do not participate in this sort of activity.
Here is a picture from my '97 Boxster...

I basically mounted it in the tray, ran the wire out a little hole in the back of the tray, behind the dash, up the window pillar, and out to my detector. There is even a nice place to tap in for power behind the center console. The wire is totally concealed. I have more pics of the actual installation if you want them.
Berkeley's site has lots of great pics/ideas as well...

Good luck.

In my 996 cab, I had my local audio dealer install a fixe dpower cord from the light assembly above the rear view mirror. This way you just have a short length of cable that drops down my the side of the rear view mirror and you can mount the detector on the windshield.
If you want the ultimate installation, take a look at Ultrasmith systems - they have a completely hidden solution mounted in the rear view mirror. I was tempted .... not cheap.

Nice, but spendy.
If you're willing use K40 or Passport instead of valentine, you can have a much more discrete indash detector system. There have been many posts comparing valentine to k40 and passport so I won't get into it here. Whether valentine is better or not, you certainly get very good protection (IMO) with the k40 or passport system (I have both - k40 in my 911, passport in my wife's car). I thought the rear view mirror install of the valentine was pretty neat though (per another's response in this thread).
Apart from the novelty, I think that this is not a good idea. The reasons why I want a stealth install are 1) eye pleasing 2) don't want cop to see it if (when?) he stops me.
With the controls in the mirror, you can bet that at night it shows like a xmas tree..
Just my 2 cents
