Also cleaned the throttle body though it wasn't that dirty. However, I'm still getting intermittent Cyl 1, 2, 6 misfire codes.

Suggestion

My plan is too replace the coils and plugs with the newest ones but I was hoping someone might have some insight if the P2189/2187 code could also be related to failing coils and plugs causing a lean condition at idle.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a '04 996 4S Cabrio with manual 6 speed. PCCB package and the X51 package. I've been reading all the posts around the misfire codes and I've also had the ABS code too. (that's in a different thread) Bought the car at 43k miles and ran great for about 2k miles.. then I started getting the codes. First it was just the misfires. So replaced all the plugs and the coils with new. Beru coils (the newer version) and the plugs folks recommended here. Took care of the misfires for awhile... then I got hit with the ABS code. Replaced the brake switch (btw... I have never contorted my body as much as I did to get that sucker replaced) Still getting the code--- car would run great then all of the sudden lose power and the ABS CEL would light up. More research here and found it could be the MAF. So I replaced that... 3 times must be the charm as I haven't received that code any more. Also cleaned the throttle body though it wasn't that dirty. However, I'm still getting intermittent Cyl 1, 2, 6 misfire codes. I clear them and the car is ok for awhile... then it seems to come back after running hard. I haven't swapped coils and plugs around yet but I'm considering it. I did confirm all the coils are fully seated. I'm honestly baffled at this point. I know this seems like a duplicate post but need some help. Happy to provide additional details. Thanks for the help. David

POST 2Original post

I have a 2004 cayenne turbo which recently had a ecu tune performed and my vehicle has been throwing the codes P2189/2187 too lean at idle bank1 and 2. I initially was also getting a code for a leak between the MAF and throttle body in which I found a cracked crankcase hose and fixed that. The codes came back and then one time it was associated with the EVAP code. So I went ahead and replaced the EVAP. The code is again coming back. I did notice that my coils are model 104.00 so they are very old and have never been changed. The car recently has also been studdering alot if the boost is increased too much which sounds like coil or spark plug problems now that the ecu tune is streessing the coils. My plan is too replace the coils and plugs with the newest ones but I was hoping someone might have some insight if the P2189/2187 code could also be related to failing coils and plugs causing a lean condition at idle. I also have had CAI on the car for over a year and never had those codes come up until recently. Thanks.

POST 3Original post

What plugs you running? Check cables for cracks. Had that in another one of my cars. Oil may also be getting past rings. Pull plugs again and check for burns. Dumb point, but pertinent: check gap on plugs. I have had plugs bought new and installed with incorrect gap.

POST 4Original post

Your tune is causing the charge pipe 0-rings to bleed vacuum/boost. Wrap some Teflon under the new 0-ring lands, so the ring surface seals much tighter.

POST 6Original post

Another thing to check is for is a coolant leak possibly spraying the coils and eventually working it's way to the plugs.
