Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Various waxes have been discussed for maintaining painted surfaces. Any thoughts on the flat black plastic areas? The center 'grill intake' is open for the Tiptronic cooler, but on the six-speed cars it looks like it may bea great bug catcher that could be hard to clean and maintain. The 997's are similar so those owners may have some ideas? The area above the fog light bars seems to be the same material. I assume neither wax or the clear film would not be appropriate.

914 G, I was going to ask the same question. I was wondering what some of you guys are using on your black plastic areas. I tried a couple of things that really had no effect. Thanks Russ

POST 5Original post

The first thing that I would likely use is 303 AP. That stuff works great. I use it to keep my sprayed-on bedliner looking new on my truck. It has UV protection. And you can use it in the wheel well areas to make crud hose off easier. The stuff can even be used on leather. I won't use it on the leather in the Cayman though, because it puts a sheen on it. It will give you different levels of 'sheen' depending how long it remains before wiping. I did use it on my 911 dash and it was great, It is water based, I think. But, it doesn't have any plastisizers thqt fog the windows. For the plastic stuff that starts to fade, I have used Turtle Wax Black Again. It is the only thing that I tried that would restore the look of a 66 911 tunnel mat, And I had tried everything. I used it on 911SC bumper guards just once and never treated them again in 4 years. They looked new. Whatever you chose should be tested in an inconspicuous loation to ensure it meets with your approval .. LL
