Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Install oil sender unit and now all well' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install oil sender unit and now all well' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Pressure sensors give quite a lot of trouble, mine was doing the same and i got a new sensor fitted and it cured the problem.
A funny thing has started to happen to my oil pressure gauge.
Normal behaviour is as per expectations, sits at about 4.5 under revs/load, drops to about 2.5 when idling once warmed through.
Even while still cold I dont generally see it go above 4.5
But recently from time to time I have been in the middle of a long journey and glanced at the gauge to see it hard against the stops at 5. If I then slip into N, the reading drops off to somewhere mid-dial, but more erratically. If I stop and resume the journey I have generally found things return to normal, especially if I turn off the engine and then restart.
I have two possible theories I'd like views on.
Theory A - pressure is normal but the pressure sensor is starting to fail and sometimes gives erratic readings. Problem here is I'd expect the sensor just to fail completely and would guess that a zero reading would be the result. Anyone know what the sensor failure modes are?
Theory B - readings are accurate, and I have an intermittent problem that causes localised high pressure in the area of the sensor. I wondered if a bit of sludge or an object could be moving about and intermittently clogging (for example) the entrance to the filter or otherwise constricting oil flow somewhere causing an increased back pressure. Dropping the revs off might allow it to fall away and clear the problem. But this would only really make sense if the sensor was in between the pump and the blockage site and I don't know enough about the oil "circuit" to know if that is plausible.
Anybody help me out with diagnosis, got any cunning ideas, or come across something similar?
Thanks
S
Hi Harry,
i replaced mine about 2 mths. ago.had zero oil pressure, and message flashed up on dash, quickly pulled over, stopped engine and checked oil level restarted and was ok.Happened again a week later, same thing.
Bought a new one from the dealers [£40] and fitted it had no problems since
Oil sender unit can be temperamental. Mine was reading bit erratically the for 2-3 seconds would suddenly go to zero then put up warming code oil failure indicator with picture of oil can. Then all would be ok again after few seconds. Fitted new oil sender unit and now all well. Reading 4.5 normal running and 2 when oil warm at idle
