Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

996 4S Cabrio, 6spd, X51 package, PCCB I've searched the forum even using google search and can't seem to find the answer. I've been having some odd electrical issues, new coils throwing cels, ABS/PSM light coming on and recently flickering lights and the voltage meter jumping between 12 and 14. Replaced all coils (did find one bad coil after swapping them around so replaced that one) New Bosch plugs. New Brake switch Cleaned throttle body new MAF New Battery Decided to go ahead and give a new VR a shot. Ordered a 000-043-206-37-M14 / Bosch F-00M-144-136 from Pelican as it said that was the right VR. Replaced the VR in the Alternator and bench tested it. All looked good. Put back in car and now the volt meter is at least going to 14 but it's still jumping a bit and the lights are flickering. Double checked the part I pulled from the Alt. it's actually F-00M-145-225 I've seen some references where the 136 is the right VR and some where the 225 is the correct VR. It would be good if the answer is "hey Pelican has the wrong part listed" and I'll just order the right one. Worst case --- what else am I looking for here? I did check the grounds and they all appear ok. Sorry for the duplicate post if it is one... feel free to bap me up alongside the head and point me to a post where I can find the details Thanks in advance for the help. D

POST 2Original post

I have a '04 996 4S Cabrio with manual 6 speed. PCCB package and the X51 package. I've been reading all the posts around the misfire codes and I've also had the ABS code too. (that's in a different thread) Bought the car at 43k miles and ran great for about 2k miles.. then I started getting the codes. First it was just the misfires. So replaced all the plugs and the coils with new. Beru coils (the newer version) and the plugs folks recommended here. Took care of the misfires for awhile... then I got hit with the ABS code. Replaced the brake switch (btw... I have never contorted my body as much as I did to get that sucker replaced) Still getting the code--- car would run great then all of the sudden lose power and the ABS CEL would light up. More research here and found it could be the MAF. So I replaced that... 3 times must be the charm as I haven't received that code any more. Also cleaned the throttle body though it wasn't that dirty. However, I'm still getting intermittent Cyl 1, 2, 6 misfire codes. I clear them and the car is ok for awhile... then it seems to come back after running hard. I haven't swapped coils and plugs around yet but I'm considering it. I did confirm all the coils are fully seated. I'm honestly baffled at this point. I know this seems like a duplicate post but need some help. Happy to provide additional details. Thanks for the help. David

POST 3Original post

What plugs you running? Check cables for cracks. Had that in another one of my cars. Oil may also be getting past rings. Pull plugs again and check for burns. Dumb point, but pertinent: check gap on plugs. I have had plugs bought new and installed with incorrect gap.

POST 5Original post

Another thing to check is for is a coolant leak possibly spraying the coils and eventually working it's way to the plugs.
