Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

It's the correct shape (& of course I checked multiple times that I ordered the correct pad) but it's as if the tolerances are really sloppy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Based on some good reviews & loving them on my turbo Miata, I got Carbotech 1521 (Bobcat) street & a/x pads for my 2012 Cayman S. Started with front passenger side. Removal of old pads & replacement of rotor no prob, but appears that CarboTech pad is too big to clear or fit. It's the correct shape (& of course I checked multiple times that I ordered the correct pad) but it's as if the tolerances are really sloppy. Hubby doing the install is a mechanic by trade so no newbie to brake work, both on street & race cars. What gives? File it down to fit or return them & get something else? I think he can just put the old stuff back on & I can order diff pads. I feel like I've read about people having to file or chamfer aftermarket pads but can't find those posts now, of course. Thoughts? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

And, I should add, the area he has bored out to get it to fit is the hole for the caliper slide/pin. It still may rattle...we'll see.

POST 3Original post

I've fitted a few different pads and never had an issue. No experience with Carbotech though. I'd probably send them back rather than modify. That said, I think the critical fit is relative to the 2 large guide pins that the inner profile of the pad rides on. You want this to be free of any binding. If that fit is good and you only had to open up the hole for the small diameter pin that holds the spring clip, that should be ok.
