Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I need to replace this coolant gasket 997-106-709-00 (or possibly the whole plastic pipe assembly 987-106-508-04), but in any store that I search, the picture is really different from the on in the schematics (and from the shape of the plastic part, where this gasket goes) Here is a picture of the gasket as it is displayed on all the vendor sites, and the "correct" shape from the schematics: And here is a picture of the plastic part where this gasket goes: I have asked PelicanParts about this, and here is their response: So the question is, do any of you guys that have changed this gasket (I know this is not common) can shed some light on this discrepancy, what is the correct part number or the correct Image?

POST 2Original post

Hi. I when I changed my coolant housing I wasn't sure if it was the gasket or the housing so I got both. They cost about $110. I wouldn't risk removing and hoping it's the gasket as it's not the easiest of tasks. Prepare to lose skin off the knuckles. I got the part directly from porsche using the 987 parts catalogue fluted correctly. If you need s write up let me know as I did find one on how to remove it. Make sure you have a 15mm rachet wrench. The gasket you show in the picture will be right. Ignore the shape just how it's drawn.

POST 3Original post

Thank you very much for the reply. Still haven't decided if purchase the whole part ($200 every where i find it, plus $80 shipping. If I could find it at around $100 I will purchase it right away) or first remove the part and see if it is the gasket. This is the times when you remember all the German engineering and spend you yearly quota of bad words on a single evening. Drop the engine just to remove a plastic pipe! I found the assembly at around $150 but they don't ship internationally, and the only place that price matches, suddenly canceled the order with a very convenient "not on stock and not ETA" status.

POST 4Original post

You need to drop the engine slightly when installing and support it to get at the housing. I didn't enjoy this task at all. Can be frustrating. I'm in the UK and got the part from porsche directly. It was £99 with the gasket. They are £123 from https://www.design911.co.uk/mobile/#part;id=130499 and all 987's use the same housing
