Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, this might sound a bit weird, but, it's causing me some grief and would like to hear if anyone is having or has had this same problem. Whenever I go for a long run, I get out of the car and the small of my back hurts like a SOB!!! As far as I know the seats are standard...black leather. Anyone had this problem and if so, what did oyu do to fix the problem? Now, just sit back and wait for all the weird and wonderful responses...:-)

POST 3Original post

No issues here. I agree with B r i a n. Don't get out of the car.

POST 4Original post

Check if your car has the lumbar adjustment. If it does then try some different settings. I know my back is sensitive to certain lumbar settings.

POST 5Original post

easier....do not get in the car

POST 6Original post

I've seen this type of query before. Search for it and you might find some better answers. Although, B r i a n ' s answer is about the best you're gonna find.

POST 7Original post

I've heard of people adding an aftermarket air bladder lumbar support. I don't think it's expensive and it should be easy to install. You might consider that option...

POST 8Original post

You need an orthopedic back pillow to cure what ails you. Better yet, how about one of the those beeded covers like the one George Castanza's father had in his GTO? : ) Now for the serious answer: If you have plain jane seats you need to add some type of lumbar support. One of those air bladders Dennis is referring to might do the trick.

POST 9Original post

A lot of Porsche guys been using these: http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/inseluinairc.html Funny thing is their ad even has a 996 in it. Literally a 5 min install for each side. Just pull forward the back cushion and stuff these back there. I had the same issue when I switched from my comfort seats with lumbar support to the sport seats

POST 10Original post

try sit ups - stronger stomach = less back pain I am not kidding

Well, if you knew what exercises I do, you'd know that that isn't the problem, but I agree with the idea.

POST 14Original post

my seat is quite uncomfortable - no mater how i adjust it. i was thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket seat, or better stock seat, but dont know what to get.

POST 15Original post

I have the "comfort seat" option with power lumbar support, and it is very comfortable. I've driven the car on a cross-country road trip with no issues...

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9885222

Just ordered one of these things. Also, a quick search on the web revealed many complaints about the poor seats!! Here's a link to one of them........ http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...mfortable.html Best Regards Les

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 9886624

+996 My comfort seats came with all the bells and whistles (supple leather/lumbar/heat) from the factory and they are really comfortable. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to sit comfortably in any of the sport seats. I wear a 56 athletic cut sport coat.....

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 9886624

I agree with this as well. I drove 12 straight hours without any issues. I regretted selling my comfort seats to get the sport seats but luckily the back cushions come out pretty easily and lumbar easily remedied. HOWEVER, after having the Sport Seats for awhile now, I would have to think about it twice if I were to do it again. I feel there is not a dramatic difference in support and at this point, it's more for the looks department imo. You do save a few pounds over the comfort seats but if you really wanted to save weight in that category, you would most likely get the European GT3 seats. This wasn't an option for me since I had to have reclining seats to get my kids in the back.

Looks like some strange medical device! I may just try one though - if it will make the seat more comfy!

POST 20Original post

Any possibility to have Porsche add the power lumbar to my leather power seats?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9888572

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update on the "problem".........just fitted the air-bladder behind the back cushion of the driver seat. In the garage, stationary at least, it feels like it will provide a lot of support. Will find out soon!

POST 23Original post

Best of luck with your sort-of solution. The standard factory seats lack an inflatable bladder which can help considerably for long treks with supporting the back. However, the root problem is you . Your core is weak and as a result your spine is attempting to hold things together and it's failing. This is extremely common, as we age. It may be possible to find replacement seats by searching through Porsche recyclers for what is known as the Porsche Adaptive Sport Seat (*** for short) from the 997 era 911. These things are miraculous in that they provide considerable adjustment to deal with such a problem. You would have to work at adapting power from your existing seats over to support the *** ones. I know all about back problems, being fused from T10 to L3, and then again from L4 to S1.

Took the car for a test run yesterday....about 30 miles is all but enough to get a sense of what the new air insert felt like. It worked very well. Made quite a difference and peovide some goos support. about $40 incl shipping and 5 mins to install. Well spent $40 IMO.
