I was totally against Bahama yellow, but went with it because the car was boring in silver, was hard to see on a track and it was the original colour (and an Aussie car).

Fraise - not many images out there I trust, and even if you can find them its such a hard colour to pin down as it changes with the light so much.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well it's a dirty converted LHD import, with wide metal guards welded on. So I can do what I like with no real fear of what 'ought' to be done. So that makes it all the harder to make decisions so I'm not 100% sure yet. I have a G50 5 speed for it, so that's a start.
It's all been done before but the large engine small car formula never fails. It's going to look very tough / racecar but it's a road car and will be built to be comfortable. High level concept not too far off Jeff's as it turns out, but won't be anything like it in the details.
First port of call is Skunkwerks for some welding and painting. Mean time I'll try and nail down what I need to decide to get it through the first gate, which is ideally defining most of the build.
Lots of fun in store, it's a top hobbie if ya have the skills or wallet are you going to update it on here as it goes through each stage? Always good entertainment to follow these builds
Here are the original car specs as confirmed by Harry at Porsche.

Miami blue is very similar to Don Johnson,s shirt ,,it is a great bright lively colour a widebody Hot rod would look good in it ..........Different from the usual Riviera blue and Mexican Blue ...

Nick
i know we've only spoken once on the phone, but would it be ok if I popped around to pick some notes off your money tree? Mine is all but dead I'm afraid, fertilisers aren't working.
OOO this is exciting. I like the little car big motor formula. I also like 2017 being year of the hot rod. Since you have a g50 that a perfect partner to 5.7 wink wink and it leave you with lots of cash for other things.
Following. anychance of getting some on film. That gives me an idea?
if a 3.6 is too scarce to find/expensive, you have a g50 so.. Building up a 3.0L with some ITB's and a turbo would also fill in that engine bay nicely!
uncle's build on here got 350hp on a conservative tune with no internal mods at all I think.

Loving the grey's n green's particularly the grey's ..........sorta industrial, military and purposeful ...............definitely blingless!
Got me thinking about getting the Devin D painted in Nardo Grey with a suitable 1960's inspired GT stripe (but what colour?)
Hold the press and take a look at the singer being shown in Detroit on the Michelin stand right now
So thata s no on he Sahara beige and brown and a yes on the deep blue and red
I'm pretty sure SB on beige is not to everyones' tastes. Perhaps not even mine! But I'm not a fan of that Singer, either interior or exterior. Come to think of it I've become a little sick of Singers all together. Burn me at the stake?
This? I believe it's Anvil Grey. I like it but would prefer a Porsche colour. There will be something near it. In fact I think you're painting a car in GBM which looks just like this

Greens
Olive - possibly my current favourite
Jade - original IROC colour and I think it looks fantastic
Murano Green - rare & cool
Blues
Sea Blue - VW colour from the 60s. I love it but it's not a Porsche colour
Miami Blue - changes a great deal depending on the light. Would have to see a proper sample oin the flesh before being sure. This is as dark, and green as I've seen it and for me it's at its best here
Aquamarine - nice old Porsche colour and probably technically a green
Mexico - it is THE best colour and that's why everyone has it and it's why I can't use it. But it has to get included here.
Tiffany Blue........just joking
Greys
Slate - I'll think I'm Steve McQueen. But I do anyhow.
Fashion
Rubstone
My first favourite
Pink
Unknown but it rocks
Yellowy Browns
Sahara Beige - IROC colour, the original colour of my car, Fittipaldi drove it and he's a cool dude
Great lamb chops (pork chops?)
Battleship grey is 'done'. Too many cars with it now, including new ones.
yellow is a bit 5 years ago as well
pink is bold and you won't see another
I reckon a shade of green shows promise, either bright or dark metallic
needs to be considered along with stripes & stickers and wheels
+1
AND complimentary to the period of build (my 2c, also assists in the colour choice) Heaps of paint colour charts of the chosen year(s) available on google
Excellent observations and I agree about the greys which is a pity as they really do look good. I didn't think I presented any yellow as to my mind Sahara Beige isn't yellow per se. I avoided oranges and reds for the same reason. Wheels will almost definitely be full satin black, 15" with a lot of width and sidewall. And whatever colour I go with has to have the potential to carry off stripes and / or scripts should I want. The paint will be strictly non-metallic.
So we're down to:
Greeny blues / bluey greens
Greens
Pinks / Rubystone
Sahara Beige
Still an infinite amount of choice in that lot so I'll keep taking suggestions.
Didnt dr porsche have something to do with panzer tanks

My 2c.
Chartreuse is rarely seen and looks fantastic IRL
Rubystone - ditto.
If you like the yellow/browns, check out Bahama yellow. I've just taken my 69E race car back to that (original colour) and love it - despite hating all yellows on cars. I never would have believed this would look good until I saw it on the metal.
(Bumpers are day glo orange)
Chartreuse is great but not for me. Rubystone is right up there but not in period as PKay says.
I'll revisit Bahama Orange as possibly it's been overlooked. Bahama Yellow is a lovely colour but not for me this time.
Grateful for the feedback guys.
EDIT. My bad I'm getting confused. Bahama Yellow I'll think about as it has some brown in it, and I don't think there is a Bahama Orange. I think I meant Signal Orange which is not for me. This is getting confusing.
I considered Mint Green but I can't live with it. The below image is MG but the light is making it look a lot more washed out. If it looked like the below image IRL then I'd consider it further but I think it's a far richer colour. And snap in the Rubystone. Same image as mine above.
I'm seeing colours everywhere. Grabbing a Souva at Jimmy Grants and more colours...and stripes.
^NATO Green is great when you first see it but it's too drab for my tastes long term. I love the Kremer but there won't be a livery on my car so it makes it a green mid 70s car which is kind of the same as the Jade Green IROC concept. I do however love the gold BBS and the vented front guards. Both of those will add $20k to the already out of control budget.
Bold I will go. That's an interesting comment about Fraise being the forerunner to Rubystone. It's also an IROC colour. I'm struggling with Rubystone as it's such a 964 RS colour...
Fraise - not many images out there I trust, and even if you can find them its such a hard colour to pin down as it changes with the light so much. It's definitely a contender as it's very rare, period correct-ish, and an IROC colour. It will need to look mean as fk not look a little ghey, but that can be done. Raspberry is another step into the pink abyss
From
this thread
see the below images - page 10 onwards. Varies so much with light and frankly it's fairly full on!
Some nice oranges...
Some Bahama Yellow that captures how deep and rich and almost brown and orange it can be...
Looks Raspberry to me. Too dark and too much purple in it I reckon. Does it say Fraise in there as I can't see it. Hope it isn't as in the world of OTT, this is OTFT for my tastes.
Cmon Porky ya know it has to be loud, I've seen your taste in colours expressed plenty of times over the years here ,,, I'm around about this colour or that colour or in between... bet your waking thinking of the spectrum and dreaming it!
Don't forget royal purple!
ps. I was totally against Bahama yellow, but went with it because the car was boring in silver, was hard to see on a track and it was the original colour (and an Aussie car). Super happy with it now.
^ lovely colour, but too Cadburys for me.
Hugh could you delete the images in your post as I don't want to confuse the internet any more than it is, as the colour isn't Sahara Beige. I'll delete mine if I can. Cheers.
OH THANKS...Another build thread I

So, the other consideration is what the build will be based on. I think it's really dangerous to just build 'what you want', and it all needs to anchor off 'something' and I guess the judgment is what things are OK to go your own way with, and what not. You might say one needs a high level guiding philosophy. So at the highest level I see 3 ways to go as follows, as I'm not into 964 or 993 RS and GT cars.
S/T
'73 RSR
'74 RSR / IROC
Now the nomenclature nazis will probably tell me I've got the model designations wrong but I think we all know what we're talking about.
I'm not going to faithfully replicate anything, but there will be a base (1 of 3) and each decision will be firstly referenced back to that car and then a decision will be made as to whether the detail is retained, or done my way. Only the final product will prove each judgment right or wrong.
The car comes with 'longhood' fibreglass flared front guards, bumpers and a converted short to longhood frunnket (front trunk bonnet?). So, it's set up for the first 2 options above but at this stage the third option is my preference. Just a matter of how the longhood thing settles on me and how much it'll cost to flip everything out to shorthood.
As it stands I'm a bit over the longhood thing, so that kind of tells me a lot. As I'm over Singers too, I reckon that puts the S/T out of the game, but so often I'll see a new longhood image (S/T or RSR) and it will take my breath away.....
Finally the colour choice will be influenced quite a bit by the anchor car choice.
The heart wants what the heart wants.
Need to ensure you turn around every time you get out of it.
For me it's an ST every day, but like you said it's what 'you' want. Longhood 'aint your thing, so.....well really there is no
so
I would agree that you need a design brief, it's how detailed that is the question? I would suggest that there are also clues within the donor that could help you make these decisions. The final outcome might have that little more substance if it's a combination of doing something faithful to not only your vision but combines some history of the car? It can also ensure that yours is unique and not just another cliche hot rod so to speak.
Very exciting project though, looking forward to seeing it unfold!
^ thanks Hugh. I agree with what you say, wise words, and the build sheet will be very detailed. Working hard on it right now.
Last it was registered was in SA in 2007 and it was purple, so is that what you mean by following the history of the car?!
One thing to look at with converting back to the IROC thing, is have a look at the rear end. There is an extra panel on the rear that the reflector on the 'G' series cars bolts to. That gets cut off with a back date, so if you go forward you would have to source that and weld it back on. I may have mine kicking around somewhere if you need it, but I kid of hacked it a bit when I took it off.
Converting the front back is pretty easy. You could probably just cut off the front of your long bonnet and you can either chop off the bottom end of the front guards and re-fibreglass them, or just swap them out for other FG guards.

good tip and if your hacked up piece is available I'll take it for sure. Good tip re the front guards and the frunnket is just a matter, as you say, of a Jeff style grinder to take it back to original as the 'long' part of the hood is just 'glass.
Thanks to P-Kay who sent me a list of factory '76 colours. I've gone through them all and the only ones I consider interesting are:
Hellgelb
Gelbgrun
Karminrot
Continentalorange
Is Karminrot Carmine Red?
Anyhow I don't think even these are for me, so this is not likely to be an anchor for the build.
Silver RSR thread is off its head. I've read all 80 pages and it's mind blowing. That is true attention to detail. I'll be cutting a lot more corners than that build did. There are some really cool details on that build that I could quite easily adopt...
And the middle blue above is Zenith and unsure of the others but my car won't be them, nice as they are.
