Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I assume you've checked the quality of the wear sensor itself, right?
Leading evidence: 'Check quality of the wear sensor itself, right' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check quality of the wear sensor itself, right' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello ! Im new here and Ive searched the net like crazy only finding 99-00 and 02-04 , would someone here happen to have the 01 wiring specifically in PDF format for me ???

Johnny,
You need to purchase the shop manuals which will have the correct wiring diagrams in them. If you didn't want to spend the money on official Porsche shop manual, I'm sure Bentley shop manuals would include all the diagrams you need.

Isn’t that what the internet is for lol to save $ on information!
unfortunately the wires behind my gauge cluster have a brown wire and a grey/red wire that I can’t figure out what they do I’m looking for the brake wear + from the blue plug
it says for 99-00 that it should be brown/black but there is no such wire there , do you know which wire that could be ?

Oh I get ya, happens all the time on these forums. People are needing exclusive information that is usually only found in shop manuals and they want someone to make copies so that they don't have to spend the money. I get it. It's expensive, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and buy one. Usually brown lines on the Porsches are Ground and I would imagine the Grey/Red is a 12 Volt + connection. Use a voltmeter to test and confirm.
What exactly is the problem you're chasing? Brake wear sensor warning illuminated?
Yes I had a mishap with the wiring harness going through the fire wall, long story 😪
Brake wear light is on , I just want to bypass the system , I’ve found the return brown/black wire on the black plug , and every other wire corresponds with the 99 wires as per colour except for those two !

Don't mind us, we love a *long* story... we're all ears... what happened? You or someone else was doing some work and mistakenly cut the wrong cable and/or mistakenly rewired the wrong thing? I assume you've checked the quality of the wear sensor itself, right? There is not much to them - simple design based on an open/closed circuit.
I was prepping to install an mr2 pump , didn’t realize the odd shape of the bend (upwards) on the inside of the grommet and drilled in some wires , yes I’m sure you had a good giggle lol , sadly the only wire I can’t trace back unless I remove the hvac system is this brown/black wire , before leaving an open circuit floating around I’d rather delete it !
You are very helpful thank you very much !!!!
last thing I wanted to do was cut into another system !
i will search again as soon as I have a day of sunshine

You're welcome! Best thing to do when you make a mistake, is step back and take a deep breath. Once all is calm, then look and see what damage occurred. If you overact in the midst of frustration, you'll only make the problem worse. Knee jerk reactions with these cars only add $$ to Porsche's bank account.
Good luck and please report back how it turns out.
Patience is a virtue lol , if I were real smart I’d leave the car alone and not try to make it the way I like it , but ya know, that’s just no fun .. I will definitely report back with hopefully good news

Absolutely! I've learned to take my time (and extra) and photograph each step along the way. I try not to force anything and avoid going cheap. Going the cheap route does not yield dividends. haha.
Pictures would of been a great idea !!!! Mentally noted !!
as for being cheap ,,, I try to pick and choose , I totally read the forums before making heavy purchases!
some things are just worth getting the Porsche parts and some things , porsche had just badly designed Or way over priced !!
one example was this stupid plastic piece that holds 2 coolant lines together on the engine by the alternator,, man I just touched it and it spewed out hot (luckily not burning skin hot) but it hurt , replaced that with some aftermarket part , mind you I think this part ended up being more expensive lol ok might not be the best example 😂
Quote:
I know the exact part you're talking about. The plastic breaks into crumbs over time. Most all 996 owners will have to replace that one over and over again. Some have even gone to Home Depot and purchase brass line couplers instead of purchasing the plastic part from Porsche. Good luck with all the work. Enjoy it.
Oh yeah just crumbled trying to remove the two halves from the hoses !!! 5150 Motorsports I believe have this wonderful thicker plastic clip with a metal tube and a longer bolt for the thicker plastic to bolt onto the block, highly recommended!!!!
As for my brake wear bypass , still no luck finding the 2nd brown black wire behind the cluster , but Ive received my new clips to screw the cluster to the dash (old ones were stripped) so I will take a 3rd look at it probably this week , fingers crossed !!

I m not sure if 2001 has can bus ??
but I have finally fixed this ,,, turns out the first black brown wire is in black plug and the elusive 2nd black brown is not black brown at all, in fact it is just brown located in the blue plug , both of these are in the cluster , so what is the best way to bypass the brake wear sensors , if anyone still wants to do this on the getting older 996 , jump the wiring harnesses from the black brown wire to the brown wire , 2001 c4 not sure how many other cars this would affect !!
