I skeptically bought the $10 DIY repair kit from AutoZone figuring I'd give it a try then drop real money for a new windshield.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have found a couple sites about the subject. I have also watched them do it at the dealership I use to work at. http://www.automedia.com/Window_Chip_Repair/ccr20050601wc/1 http://yhst-13811118617756.stores.yahoo.net/vrwistchdrek.html?productid=vrwistchdrek&channelid=BCOME Has anybody ever done this or found a cheap company that does it. safe lite charges like $120. The chip is less than the size of my pinky finger nail(smaller than a dime). no runs or spidering.

POST 2Original post

When this happened to me my insurance company (GEICO) paid for the repair.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have geico, was it repair or replace? Did you have to pay a deductable? Also did it do anything to your premium?

POST 4Original post

It was a repair and there was no deductible. Sorry I took so long to respond. I forgot about the thread.

POST 5Original post

I had one on my truck and one on my Porsche. I took the Porsche to a specialty windshield shop and had it done for $65 in twenty minutes. Then I bought an $8 kit at Kragen and did the truck. Same results. Very difficult to see in either case. One key is a sunny warm day so there is no moisture trapped inside the windshield and so the glue cures via ultraviolet.

POST 6Original post

If your windshield is only chipped or slightly cracked, we may be able to repair it by injecting a bonding agent into the broken area. this process restores the integrity of the windshield and stops the cracking process.a stone chip left unrepaired will eventually result in a cracked windshield or go to iowa auto glass.

POST 7Original post

Geicko has a free chip repair on windshields, no deductible and no increase in premiums, they send a mobile service out to do it.

POST 9Original post

I had to laugh when I saw your post. I had a stone chip occur on my Boxster earlier this year. I skeptically bought the $10 DIY repair kit from AutoZone figuring I'd give it a try then drop real money for a new windshield. To my amazement the kit worked like a charm.
