Back when I had a MK4 GTi, I looked into this and apparently VAG used Recaro as the OEM for their seats up until c.1997

I fancy a change but i want to stay within the Porsche camp.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Good question.
Tbh i find the standard seat to be abit boring considering its in a Porsche and not very sport'ish, and the side bolsters are abit lame. Overall its an ok seat but i think its could have been better. Its also one of the worst seats i have ever sat in in regards to comfort, my back screams after any decent drive, a complaint i have seen talked about a few times.
I fancy a change but i want to stay within the Porsche camp. I looked at the 997 seats but they are not any more appealing in my eyes, then i stumbled across the 928 seat and liked the look of them and certain years of 928 had a really good seat with more pronounced side bolsters.
As i say its just an idea ... it may come to nothing.
964 Sports Seats and early 993 Big Bolster Sports Seats are one of the most supportive and comfiest seats I have had the pleasure of doing miles in. It's a shame Porsche lost the plot when it came to the 996 & 997 IMO. Obviously GT2/3 Buckets are on another level but not ideal on longer journeys.

After this they took it all in-house and while the early seats are almost as good, nothing since has been the same. This pattern repeats across all their cars - Golf GTi, Audi R/S3/4, Porsche 996 etc.
On the plus side, since theyre all from the same parts bin, I would suggest you broaden your search to the VAG Recaro seats of pre-97 vintage as these will give you everything you need, at a prive that you can afford to have them re-covered to your spec and still come in less than Porsche ones. unless you already have a pair, or a freindly breaker!
I had 996 comfort seats, honestly the most comfortable seats I've had in a car. Swopped to hardback 996 sports seats which are OK but not as comfortable. Miles better than the 993 hardbacks which were ok for an hour or so then started to cripple me with pain
I fitted 997 GT3 alcantara reclining seats. Much lower and bigger bolsters, one of the best seats i've sat in. The standard turbo tombstones were like sitting on cardboard with no bolster support whatsoever.
