The alternator was replaced new about 4 years ago with the 150a version.

Also check cable ends, they tend to corrode and build up resistance.

Hi, again, I've just replaced the battery and noticed the voltage would start from ~13V when cold and after driving the car for a few minutes, it drops to ~12V and stays there, just very slightly after ~12V, the meter suggests 12.3v.

I would start with a off car alternator test by a real alternator shop, Or before that,, check the brushes and diodes,, its not too hard,, usually you can see the brushes with the alt off,, I've resurrected quite a few alternators with a 10 dollar set of brushes, or a new rectifier assembly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Do you guys remember how much you paid to drop the motor? (thinking ahead since i need to fix the coolant leak) I have 3 indy shops on my list, just would like to get rough estimate how much it should cost me to drop the motor and compare the prices. Or I may wait we get nicer weather and do it myself- Glad I found the leak.

thanks for quick response -
I dont have a lift so I wont even bother for diy engine drop.
I have to change clutch slave cylinder as well- so it be nice to do it as well.
np..yeah, at the very least, the slave requires you drop it but usually that can be done w just the motor mounts. i wouldn't mess with an engine drop ( again ) independently lol. too much hassle. ( for me )
Is there a DIY thread for dropping the motor anywhere? I've seen a YouTube video but it didn't go over anything but the drop itself and the blocking to support things. Something generally to tell you where all of the connections are to disconnect would be really helpful as I'd imagine slowly lowering an engine and hearing crackling or seeing a wire tugging would really suck. Lift and a hydraulic table (yay HF!) with some blocking seem like the way to go if you've got the space...
Likewise, can't find anything really good for tearing a motor down either

lol' i've seen that youtube video about the dude dropping the motor, THAT LOOKS SCARY AS hell! I would rather pay than lowering my expensive motor using 2x4's. and no, you dont want to lower the motor and try to see whats holding it, tons of stuff would get destroyed- connectors, etc...lines....but yeah, IF i would own a lift, I would do it myself. maybe someday I can own one.
There is a DIY on this site. I remember from a while ago - a guy illustrated very nicely how to do it with jack stands. A very nicely detailed write-up.
well i got quoted for dropping the motor and put it back in: one place is $1350 another one is $1000 waiting for last indy shop to call me... I need to take care of this crap, I dont want coolant exploding while getting on boost lol.
I'm going to the shop on sat to see where its leaking from.... keep you guys updated. IF the motor will get dropped i think i should pin/weld the coolant hoses.

and I believe that's what last shop will quote me. I really dont care few hundreds here and there- its nice to actually see whats waiting for me if it comes to worse.

that's what I pay. but mitigate that by the fact I'm doing other work, but if one were to isolate and itemize the engine removal and re-install. 6 hours at 100 per hour is what I pay, at the well known and highly reputable shop some of us in SoCal use.
someone else might pay a different price. adding coolant wouldn't be considered a separate line item.
shop manual says 8 hrs labor each way. add the additional cost of fixing the issue. and the cost of all the other things that you should do as long as the driveline is already out.
i mean why put 10+ yr old vacuum lines, coolant lines, crappy oem slave back in? you can do it in your garage if your handy with a wrench
figure 5k$ and you should be good.
I don't mean to be rude, but anyone that pays their shop 12 hours to remove their engine needs to stand there and watch what they do with the rest of the billable hours they have charged you for. because it sure aint just taking out the motor.
that is so beyond the pale of fair and reasonable i am speechless yet still typing aghast and in laughable horror. patently absurd. a clutch in/out should be 8 hours MAX!
Well i can get mine out in under 3 hours but on a car that hasnt had its motor pulled in a while and is now 12 years old you need to allow for stuff broken stuck or just plain worn out.
having never done it before and taking my time with the car on a lift it took me 7 hrs to drop my trans and engine. i can drop maybe 2 hrs off that if i stayed hard at it. its not hard but theres a lot to do and do it right. bagging hardware and tagging parts is very time consuming

bro, seriously? i stood there first time and it was 2.5/3 hours were inspecting my clutch plates! i mean my guys aren't a SHOP but they arent "diy" either. basically, "any lift'll do"
guerrilla meets hillbilly style.
but then it wasn't their first rodeo, and i couldn't diY either.. so.. yeah, that makes sense. it's all this "12 hours +/- .. 19 hours" yadda yadda has me chuckling. i mean c'mon people. ( not you steve ) but get under the car! the mystery tends to disappear
19 hours to replace a clutch!? what third world bullsh*t is that!? sheesh.

nice!
so sambo is famous worldwide now eh?. thats awesome. he needs a vacation and a maybe a couple of saville row suits lol. i say you sponsor him, and he'll show/tell you how to get in/out the clutch in.. i wanna say. 2.3/4 hours.
