Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Maybe the 3.4L is just an overall smoother running engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

I'm trying to ensure that this 07 S I bought has a 3.4L engine and it is quieter and smoother than my 05S 3.2L . I figure I can be sure it is a 3.4L engine by measuring maximum speed before redline in 2nd gear and comparing it to the baseline for the 987.1 3.4L cars. Obviously if it had any engine other than a 3.4L the values would be different. Thanks in advance for any help

POST 2Original post

My friend, your car does not have a 2.7 in it. The 3.4 feels smoother than the 2.7 based upon my experience. Less mechanical sound. I have no idea why. Could have been that my 2.7 was a 5 speed. 75mph in 2nd at 7200 rpm. http://www.roadandtrack.com/content...content/download/54880/1542619/version/4/file/RT_2006-Porsche-Cayman-S_data.pdf

POST 3Original post

Huhh? That would be a function of the final drive gear ratio, not the engine. Do you think the engine has been swapped? Did it come with a "Maintenance Booklet" along with the owner's manual? That should list the engine number.

POST 4Original post

thanks all for the feedback. i bought the 07 CPO'd Boxster S from a dealer. It was a one owner car serviced by them so I'm probably just being silly. The thing is my 05 S 3.2L seemed torquier and louder. i could really feel the engine vibrating through the seats. Maybe the 3.4L is just an overall smoother running engine. It just seemed weird as I would figure I get more of a rumble and shake from the 3.4L

Sorry to go off-topic but that's a cool document, do they have one for the Cayman R?
