Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

'course, I had changed the oil/filter way before this time but it was interesting to note how many miles the engine oil change computer wanted to let the oil remain in service.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I took delivery of my 11 Cayman in May and it now has about 2700 miles on the car but when I drove the other day my indicator was showing service needed in 25 days.Would this mean that maybe the dealership had the car for awhile and it is coming up on its 1st year anniv?

POST 2Original post

Maybe. Look at the build date on the tag on the door jam. I bought a new '08 Cayman S in April of 09 -- the car was made.... gee I forget now when but either late in 08 or early in 09 and shortly after I bought it (with around 70 miles on the car) the service engine light came on. I think the light is triggered by time, type of usage and number of starts with no warmups. New cars at dealers get started alot but driven very little so this probably over time leads to this service light coming on before it would otherwise. Years earlier I bought a new 01 Camaro Z28 with factory miles and drove the car over 6K miles -- mostly high speed highway miles (before I sold the car in Jan of '02 (after I bought my new 02 Boxster) I had put over 28K miles on the car) before the service engine light came on. 'course, I had changed the oil/filter way before this time but it was interesting to note how many miles the engine oil change computer wanted to let the oil remain in service. Sincerely, Rockster.

POST 3Original post

Yeah I would check the door tag as well to see when it was built. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 4Original post

I thought it was based on time or mileage (and when last reset, if serviced at some point)?

POST 5Original post

The service timer starts at the built date. The dealership didn't zero-time it prior to delivery. It is. See explanation above.

POST 6Original post

The service indicator and requirement in the UK is every 2 years or 20k. Is that not the same in the US?

POST 7Original post

It used to be for the gen 1 cars, but now the gen 2 cars have been scaled back to 1 year or 12k miles, or something around that.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
