I have a
2006 Cayman S
. I started getting a check engine light recently so I took it into my mechanic (not the dealer but a factory trained tech). He explained that the check engine code was for the evap test pump. He even checked the pump to verify that was the issue. To be clear, the evap test was not failing, the pump that conducts the test was not functioning. He told me he would replace it for me but said that it was covered by
Porsche
through the federal emissions warranty (8yr, 80,000).
I consulted the local
Porsche
dealer who said it was not a covered item and would not offer me any explanation. Should the evap test pump be covered by
Porsche
? Should I dispute this with
Porsche
or move on?
Thanks for your help!
In case it helps, the check engine code was P2402
If it is parts of the emissions system, it is covered under federal law. Have the advisor that told it was not covered to put it in wrighting. i suspect someone will catch his stupidity before you get it in black and white.
If not someone is trully asleep at the switch!
Do you have any other
Porsche
dealer close by?
The plot thickens…
I called
Porsche
USA customer service last night and explained to them the whole situation. I just got a call back from a customer service rep. She confirmed, once again, that the evap leak detect pump is not covered under the federal emission warranty because it is not a part of the
ECU
, catalytic convertor or the diagnostic system and that it is not covered under warranty.
I find this very hard to believe the evap leak pump is NOT considered part of the emissions diagnostic system. Unfortunately, the woman who called be was not mechanically inclined so she couldn’t offer me any explanation and referred me to my dealer if I had further questions.
Anyone side with
Porsche
?
Well, side is to strong a word. What does your car's owners manual warranty booklet have to say?
Generally about the only things that are covered by the federal emissions warranty is the
DME
(
Ecu
) and the converters.
Other items while one would think they are covered are not covered because they either fall outside of the emissions system that is directly responsible for the
exhaust
gas emissions or they do not cost enough money.
Both the
DME
and the converters are rather expensive items. The Evap pump not so much.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
