That procedure blocks out the automatic use of that outflow path and now the windshield will not be inadvertently cooled to dewpoint by the CHILLED A/C airflow.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

anyone found a solution for windshield condensation in summer nights? 2 days ago,, i found some water drops on my shoe toe which i believe came from behind the dashboard due to a/c condensation,, is that common?

POST 2Original post

Dyu mean condensation inside or outside the windshield? Either way, no water should drip inside the car. put the blower on the inside of the windshield to clear condensation.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

condensation outside the windshield due to the fact that cold air always comes out of windshield vents regardless to whatever setting the a/c is on,,

POST 4Original post

I set my AC to center dash vents only and never have any condensation. If your condensation is on the outside it should not be leaking to the inside in any case. Maybe a drain line is clogged up somewhere?

POST 5Original post

This was a common issue for me when I lived in the Midwest. Once I moved to the mountains, the problem disappeared. You may have to move!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

never worked for me

POST 7Original post

I will test my vents today and let you know if when on center vents there is any air coming out of the windshield vents.

POST 8Original post

All I can say is the A/C in my 04 40th AE is the best and coldest (and has a fast airflow) A/C I have had in any of my cars. One area that was once a sore spot for Porsche in the air cooled world has come full circle and is one of the best I have experienced!

POST 9Original post

Ok just got back from driving my 996 this morning. When I run the AC on manual and use only the center vents there is NO air coming out of the windshield vents. When I click the Auto button the air does start coming out the windshield vents but then after switching to center vent only the air stops coming out of the top vents. So it appears to me that you have a vent malfunction. Steve my AC also is very cold and really kicks *** for an 11 year old car.

POST 10Original post

Porsche has somewhat of an anomalous design with regards to the climate control AUTOMATIC design mode. Once the cabin atmosphere declines to fairly nearby your temperature setpoint the system automatically switches to opening ALL outflow ducts, windshield, dash, footwell(***).....WINDSHIELD...!!?? On a hot/humid day, or more likely early evening as the air cools and the RH rises, the resultant cooling of the windshield will often result in exterior windshield fogging. I first had this happen crossing Alabama one evening just after driving through a rainstorm, it was so sudden that my first instinct was to pull to the shoulder since I now had minimum forward vision. The best solution is to first select, manually select, the windshield flow mode (NOT DEFROST MODE!), and then immediately deselect same. That procedure blocks out the automatic use of that outflow path and now the windshield will not be inadvertently cooled to dewpoint by the CHILLED A/C airflow. *** My best guess is that this is done in order to more widely disperse the COOL system outflow, allowing an overall lower, less intrusive, blower speed, and lower velocity, less discomforting CHILLED airflow to the face and upper body. Lessons from Lexus, I guess.

i will give that a try and let you know,,

POST 12Original post

Check your AC drain. Water should not drip into the car. Especially from behind the dash.

POST 13Original post

While condensation on the INSIDE of the windshield is highly unlikely if it does happen that might well account for your wet shoe toe.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

tried every single setting,, airflow may get reduced,, but never stops,,

POST 17Original post

Also check that you have water draining out of the car (condenser drain). When the car is running and the airconditioner is on. Car climate control is not set on recirculate? Right?

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9826266

recirculate is on,,

POST 19Original post

It's on!! Then thats your moisture problem you are recirculating your exhaled moisture.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9826284

i see,, what about the windshield condensation (from the outside)?

POST 21Original post

I get the outside windshield condensation on humid or foggy nights. Bring the temperature up on the climate control to about the dew point outside and it will evaporate, especially upon driving, also the wipers will take off the little bit there til you get going, and the temperature goes up on the winshield. Then take the airflow off of the windshield and you should be able to drop your climate control temp, it may come back if you really drop the temp a lot. Are you down south or in a very warm area?

Not on my C4, but I have experienced condensation on the OUTSIDE of the A/C plenum plastic housing after a long drive with continuous A/C use.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 9826543

The issue of condensation on the outside of the windshield can be easily avoided via being certain sure there is no COOLING airflow from the windshield defrost/defog/demist ducts.

No, I'm very much afraid that this aspect was adopted from an earlier, '91ish, NipponDenso, Denso US, design.
