Greetings,
As I type this, on my
IPad
, I am listening to Pandora, in the garage, in the
Boxster
, on the
Boxster
's base radio. And it sounds... Good.
The
IPad
is streaming Pandora from the garage wifi net, then sending the music via Bluetooth to the little Griffin Bluetrip, which is tucked into the glovebox and has a short cord plugged into the aux port. The sound is remarkably better than I would have expected. Siruisxm (I have a radio in my
BMW
) sounds quite good too. In driving practice, my wifi hotspot would be plugged into the center console and active so the
IPad
gets 4g lte data. Will be trying that innthennext few days.
I really didn't expect much out of this solution, due to Bluetooth streaming limitations. But as an el cheapo alternative to the extra
Sirius radio
, it certainly works. Of course I can load music on the
IPad
as well and not need to stream from the Internet. I probably will do that as well.
All of this was an experiment to see whether buying the
IPad
MINI might be a viable way to set this up. Since it works well on the regular
IPad
, using the MINI with an upcoming mountek mount could be very cool.
So, for those of you who were wondering if the Griffin Bluetrip is worth it, it is! Now, one last thing... This is NOT a good way to stream stuff from your
iPhone
. Why? Because the Bluetrip tries to be a speake phone too. The built in Porsche Bluetooth system is stalk accessible, and works quite well. For me, on a long trip it makes sense for the
iPhone
to be paired to the car and the
iPad
to the Bluetrip. It certainly all comes together nicely though and the sound quality for use in a roadster to totally fine!
Good to know, but figured as much.
Wait until the end of January. Once I've had my car for a week or so, I'm going to machine a custom mount to hold the
iPad
mini and anodize it black to match. I've already given it some thought. It's going to be really, really good and include an integrated Lightning cord (that splits onto the power cord behind the 7" OEM display) so that the
iPad
mini charges while it's in the mount, without any visible wires.
... and you will make some extra and sell it to your p9 friends at cost ...
Boxster
hopeful, I would be very interested in such a mount, please. AND Thankyou! I think even with a 64gb
iPad
mini with the GPS, one is way ahead of the infotainment package in terms of serving music, having a neat GPS display (Navigon and Copilot Live look great and store the maps on the device), and something you can still take with you.
Couple of questions about the Griffin Bluetrip:
1) If I leave it plugged into the aux outlet in the passenger footwell in my
987.2
, will it automatically cut off to not drain my car battery;
2) What happens when you start up the car - does the Bluetrip automatically repair to your
iPhone
?
I'm using an
iPhone
5S with iOS 7.
Thanks,
I've installed the griffin bluetrip, and it does re pair itself to my iphone5 with ios7. But I don't know if the battery will drain if you leave the device plugged in for several days without turning the engine on. My car is only 3 days old, so I haven't had a battery issue, yet. I don't know if others with this setup has experienced any problem.:gossip:
The outlet will turn off if there is no drain so I think you should be ok. Does it has on indicator LED? If it does then test it first using other outlet such as the one in the passenger side. After a few minutes the LED should go out.
You are right. I checked to see if I can find the bluetrip device via phone bluetooth connection, and it had powered down in about 7 minutes.
