Soon after I got the Cayman S and started using the K40 I got way to close to being caught with late warnings with it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Gents, My used Cayman S Sport was aquired with a K40 hard wired into the front and rear of the vehicle. It also has the permanent dash integration with the remote. So far it doesn't seem any better (actually worse) than my old Valentine 1 in terms of ease of use and performance. It has to be 5 years old by now. To date it has been more of a hassle than a help. Any of you experts care to comment on the whether or not this unit is still effective? Opinions welcome... Mj

POST 3Original post

The lack of response should tell you that the answer is No. If you search for K40 on this website there have been discussions in the past about how poorly they perform but evidently there is a lot of gravy $$$ in it for dealers to install one so some unsuspecting buyers go ahead and have the dealer add one to their car not knowing that there are much better alternatives out there. Let me break it down for you: Radar Detector Forum (radardetectorforum.org) I'll save u some time: Dash Mounted: -get a Redline if you want ridiculous range, responsiveness, stealth. Downside is sensitivity makes it hard to live with in town. -get a v1 if u want to save some coin over the redline and like having arrows, at some expense of sensitivity. Also hard to live with in town. -get a Max if you want GPS and a lot of filtering to make it quiet in town and fancy OLED display...all at the expense of performance outside if town. Installed: Bel Sti-R+ is pretty much the only one I would consider in this space. Also tough to deal with in town. Honestly, aside from bel clones, there isn't much else worth owning for radar. Laser: Laser Interceptor all day no question. Good luck.

POST 5Original post

Pretty much never was, IMO but then opinions vary. Looks like others have chimed in with leads on current favorites. For what little it's probably worth, having tried both, I hold with those who favor the Escort/Passports. The Valentine in my experience was/is too damn sensitive, arrows coming from everywhere as George Armstrong Custer says. And the technology with the Internet messaging system is evolving. off S4 Active

POST 6Original post

I love an opinionated breakdown! This is the kind of response I value and the reason I join forums. I generally enjoy research but there are times when all I want is someone to get me going in the right direction and I can take it from there. Soon after I got the Cayman S and started using the K40 I got way to close to being caught with late warnings with it. Nothing like my older V1 which was great in terms of being early. I have not researched any of these newer generation products but will do so now. Many thanks dombey- Mj
