try removing the bulb from the right side and inserting it in the left side and vice versa, I did that to check whether the problem was the bulb or something else.

I think I just replaced the brake light bulbs (both) for the first time at about 130,000.

However, when i went and changed the bulb it turned out to be in good condition, but i changed it anyway, when i changed it the signal on the dash stayed the same and the bulb didnt work attall, this is now bugging me as it has been a few weeks and when a brake light doesnt work it makes the car feel cheap!!!

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Went to the dealer each time and fixed it for free.
Hi:
I have a 2006
Cayman
-S with 28,000 miles. I recently had a "Check Right Brake Light" warning message appear on the center console. Sure enough, the bulb had a broken filament. I replaced the bulb, the brake light now works, but the error warning message continues to appear on engine start-up. Easy enough to acknowledge the message by moving the lever on the left side of the steering column, but I am tired of looking at the red exclamation mark which remains in the center console display. Is there a message reset that I am not aware of, or does the persistence of the warning suggest there is an electrical issue?
Thanks.
Adam
I am actually having this same issue. I got the bulb, replaced it fine, but still get the warning message displaying. Does anyone know how to clear this message? Does it just not like the bulb I replaced it with?
Thanks!
Did you replace it with a random bulb or a bulb from
Porsche
?
I'd guess that the
Porsche
bulb is rated for some certain amount of current when it goes on. If you new bulb draws less current, the computer registers that as a burnt bulb. This is a complete guess, though...I have no idea how it works.
well I had the same prob, but the message disappeared when I fitted a new bulb. Check the one u got, because the
Porsche
bulb is 4w, the most common is 5w, so that may be causing the problem!

I am having the same problem except on the left hand side, 2007 car with 13k miles,
However, when i went and changed the bulb it turned out to be in good condition, but i changed it anyway, when i changed it the signal on the dash stayed the same and the bulb didnt work attall, this is now bugging me as it has been a few weeks and when a brake light doesnt work it makes the car feel cheap!!!
Any suggestions, i dont have time to go to the dealer at the moment!!!
try removing the bulb from the right side and inserting it in the left side and vice versa, I did that to check whether the problem was the bulb or something else. When I put the left side (supposedly damaged) bulb into the right, it gave me the same message but for the right side, and the left side now lit up well. So I concluded it was the bulb, changed it and all was well

Looks like
Porsche
got a 'special deal' on light bulbs or something. I've been driving my other car for 140,000 miles. I think I just replaced the brake light bulbs (both) for the first time at about 130,000.
Possible solution
I have vhad this happen 2x with 35K on my car now . 1st time I put the bulb in it fried in 5 seconds so I went back to the auto parts store and the greasy guy told me NOT TO TOUCH the glass part of the bulb when installing as the human oils make it fry. what a crock I thought .I did what he said and have never had a problem sense .
Re: Possible solution
Obviously, that "greasy guy" had a good
sense
of automotive lighting,
since
he knew better than to contaminate the bulb. Had you read your Owner's Manual (p.244 in mine) you'd have read the warning to "Never touch bulbs with bare hands. Use a cloth or soft paper when replacing bulbs." BTW, same "no touch" rule applies to many halogen bulbs for home use.
Maybe the greasy guy learned it from reading his Porsche Owner's Manual.
I just replaced the left rear brake light on my 2008 with 15K miles on it. Read the owners manual and pick up a 2775 light at the local auto parts shop (two bulb pack cost me $4.50). Works great now and only took five minutes to replace. I am kind of disappointed in
Porsche
though - I had a 914 for 16 years and I don't remember ever changing a bulb other than an interior dome light!!!
Happened to me 3x already: twice on the right, once on the left (at 3500 miles, 5000 miles, and 5500 miles). Went to the dealer each time and fixed it for free. Not been a problem for the last year.
I replaced my right brake light bulb around 17k miles after the warning came up. Two weeks ago I got a warning for my left brake light. On both occasions the warning message disappeared after replacing the broken bulbs.
