I'm having lots of fun with this '09 Boxter.
Today wanted to hardwire the Passport.
Running the wire was a snap.
Got to the fuse box and it seems no matter what fuse I picked (yes I checked the list for a fuse that is controlled by the Ignition) The passport would turn on w/ a LOW VOLTAGE message and power down, w/ the ignition on or off. If the ignition was turned on it would then come back up and function fine.
IS THERE A CONSTANT LOW VOLTAGE MONITORING LOOP RUNNING THROUGH THE SYSTEM? (door was open key out most of the time)
When I finally gave up. I powered the car up and got 3 warning messages:
PSM FAILURE
DYNAMIC CORNERING LIGHT FAILURE
DRIVE OFF ASSISTANT FAILURE
Closed everything up, plugged the passport into the 12V power socket and it works fine.
Any idea what is going on here?
So I took the car for ride and the computer cleared itself.
The error messages are gone.
Monday I'll talk to Porsche abou the fuse box.
It makes no sense. Any fuse I tried gave power (low voltage) to the passport with the key out; key in ign off.
Still scratching my head
I'd recommend using whatever fuse connection that has been used by others before in their articles. I never had anything like that with mine. The errors sounds like your car lost power, as in disconnecting the battery power, as those typically get reported after such an event but then clear themselves.
I didn't disconnect the battery, but I was pulling fuses. The error codes messages cleared themselves when I took it for a drive around the block.
Played with the fuses again.
The Passport works fine when plugged into the 12V outlet.
When I connect to a switched fuse, and I tried them all, turn the key the passport comes up "low voltage, shutting down", then it is fine if you start it manually.
Have no idea what is going on, will talk to Porsche on Monday.
From discussions to date with the independant installer and service at Porsche, I am getting the isdea that things were done differently in the '09.
Does the Boxster have the rear windshield wiper spot for a fuse? That worked for me on the Cayman. It is was not live with the key on.
The slot is there, and if it was there I tried it.
It is the strangest damn thing I've come across in wiring detectors.
Are you using an "Add-A-Circuit" fuse tap?
Let's see,
First I used a VOM to find the fused side of the fuse socket.
I tried inserting the bare wire on the fuse blade
I tried using a fuse tap on the fuse.
On the unsed fuse slots I inserted the bare wire into the hot side.
Same result each time.
Turn on ignition, Passport comes up "low voltage, shutting down", then turns on fine manually.
