Hey all - Brand new Porsche owner, just picked up my
Cayman
3 days ago, so apologies if this is common knowledge and a n00b error.
I have the PCM. Whenever I turn the car on, the radio is on, usually to some weird static station. Even if I turned the stereo off before taking the key out, that radio is back whenever I hit the ignition. What's the solution?
What year is the car? (In other words, PCM 2.1 or 3.0?)
With my 2009 (PCM 3.0), just tapping the left button once mutes the radio but doesn't turn it off. When I restart the car, radio comes back on where it was. I'm assuming you are holding down the left button until the unit turns off completely - i.e. black screen.
If this is a brand-new car, did the dealer go through the steps to "register" the radio? (Esp. important with XM systems, to properly activate the trial period.)
Haven't personally had any trouble. Have used FM, Sat (XM), CD's, MP3 CD's, DVD Audio tracks, and USB sticks. USB even remembers which track and where in track it was playing, even after removing stick and plugging it back in a week later!
It is a 2009 so it's the 3.0.
I didn't realize tapping the button wasn't turning it off. I'm sure that's the problem. I'll try holding it in
next
time, to see if that turns it completely off, and that way it should be quiet when I start it up again.
Still getting used to the quirks... My newest quirk is that it doesn't remember the Random setting for the iPod. I only ever listen in Random mode, and it sucks having to reselect it every time.
(Don't mean to sound negative - trust me there are 1000 things I love for every little quirk, I'm on cloud 9.)
The radio comes on in '09s so Bluetooth works at start-up. That's my understanding.
I hope that's not the case, since BT and the stereo are (or should be) two different things, and should not be mutually dependent.
I found the radio coming on at start-up to be hugely annoying, and that's what the dealer told us. Apparently, the Bluetooth functionality is part of the audio system.
This also is my first Porsche. One of the things I have learned to do, and which you will hear alot on here, is to read the owners manual. These cars are more quirky than a camry or whatever. I have learned quite a bit about my car from reading all of the owners manuals that came with this car. Plus I read a billion posts on here..learned way more than the manuals from the members of this site.
Congrats on your Porsche. There really is NO substitute.
I agree it's annoying...so my turning the radio "off" now is just turning the sound all the way down, not "mute"
Reading the book takes all the excitement and disccovery out of the ownership of a new car:hilarious:
I cannot think of any reason why I would not want the radio to come on as it would be the second thing I turn on (other than on the track)
