So I had the CDR30 pulled and the Kenwood 6140 installed.
Radio is great, XM - no problem, Nav - what can you say, it's a Garmin, Back up Camera, love it and like being able to turn it on when moving forward. Havn't tried a DVD yet but the CD is fine. Overall sound is quite enjoyable.
So what's the problem? The Blue Tooth locks up my phone (LG Incite) and the phone has to be reset.
The phone pairs, It can make calls, I was able to see my address book, It even took a voice command. Then 5 minutes later I have to reset the phone. Looks like I'm using the current firmware. I spoke with Kenwood, they have to call me back. Installer will call Kenwood on monday. His phone worked with it, but the BT would not see his phone book. We suspect it is a defective Blue Tooth.
Sounds great (apart from the phone glitch - hope you get it fixed). I'd love to see a picture of this installation!
here you go Mike, it was already posted:

Thanks - that looks really good
Thanks, they did do a great job. They matched the color of the trim perfectly and I really like the Kenwood. Hopefully we'll solve the blue tooth problem this week.
On a one to ten scale where do you rate the sound of the two units?
First I didn't have a problem w/ the sound of the CDR30. It gave a nice full presence. The CDR30 was clean and sounded great
My complaint was with the user interface and I wanted the camera and GPS.
The Kenwood system is using the same speakers and power amp as the CDR30 so that any difference is all due to the front end.
I have always liked the sound provided by Kenwood. I've used them before and have never been let down. The sound quality of the DNX-6140 is excellent. It might be a bit brighter than the CDR30, but I'm just starting to play w/ the equalizer - which I think is more versatile than the CDR30.
In short the sound from both is excellent. Sound quality wise I'd be happy with either unit. you want a 1-10 I'd give both an equal rating at 8. And that would probably be higher except for cabin noise.
Thanks and that is "cabin music"...
Kenwood got back to quickly, and the installer spoke with them as well.
Opinion seems to be we need to go back to the older firmware for the LG phone.
Will probably try in a few days, Kenwood Bluetooth firmware needs to be installed via Bluetooth.
What was the cost for the changeout? Ed
The Total ran $2100 installed
Kenwood DNX 6140 all-in-one w/Nav & DVD
Backup Camera
XM module
Extra 12V outlet
Hardwire Passport 9500
Faceplate/Trim mods
Reasonable expense if those features are attractive. I'd have guessed a lot more.
