Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
you need an advanced/enhanced obd2 scanner that can interface with the TCU so you can read the adaptation/fill values for each gear..assuming it uses somewhat similiar software to the mercedes unit
Leading evidence: 'Fill values' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill values' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have a perfectly running tiptronic I removed from my 2004 C4S, not sure if compatible?

These shops rebuild the valve body, machine the base to remove warping, pressure test, hook up engine and test it and at least one then throws it on a dyno and tests how robust the rebuild was before returning it to you.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been fighting 2001 Tiptronic ( C4 Cab) issues for several years now. None of the local shops would take it out and wait for a rebuild, so I took it out myself, sent it off, got it back, something was wrong, sent it off, got it back, something was wrong, sent off the valve body, got it back, improved but still going into limp mode.
I'm currently trying to capture data. I have an oscilloscope tied to all of the pressure and solenoid valve signals, and I'm working on being able to listen for relevant can bus data.
I have a PIWIS clone which gives me detailed information about the faults, but it doesn't lead me to any definitive answer. It could be the valve body, it could be the torque converter, it could be the pump, etc.
I'm about to throw in the towel and am interested in any independent shops, preferably in my vicinity, that are really good with 1998-2001 Tiptronics. Alternatively, I need a good source for either a fully rebuilt transmission, a rebuilt valve body, a rebuilt pump, a rebuilt torque converter, etc. I'm in Lexington, Ky, USA.
Alternatively, I declare defeat, sell it as is, and either get a manual version, or something completely different. It's been a fun car, but not so much just sitting in the garage.
Try calling trans a Mercedes trans, not a Porsche 996 Tiptronic. It is fairly common, perhaps look to Mercedes shops? I found this in another thread a while ago:
"The gearbox is called "5G tronic" or "NAG" by Mercedes" -- MBZ-722.6 Trans. "AWD C4, C4S, Turbo, only the 996 Turbo Tiptronic uses another MBZ tranny (F-1) with different OEM part number and they are not interchangeable due to bolt pattern". *Transmission is Mercedes in 996.2. (ZF in 996.1)*
Apparently, this trans has been in many different cars, so that may help you.
Perhaps this will help you?
YMMV
The C4S uses the Mercedes tip and this guy needs a ZF tip.
After I did my manual swap I ended up giving away my old Mercedes tip to get it out of here.
If your a PCA member I'd ask your clubs members. They can usually provide good recommendation pf Indy shops that work on Porsche's in your area. If you were closer to Central PA I could help with a Indy shop that works on Porsche ZF transmission. John
Sorry! Yes, you are correct. The 2002 got a different ZF transmission that is common in Mercedes, etc, but not the PDK until a few more years later.
5HP19 is the one in my Porsche.
you need an advanced/enhanced obd2 scanner that can interface with the TCU so you can read the adaptation/fill values for each gear..assuming it uses somewhat similiar software to the mercedes unit
this is a top don scanner connected to my TT. i dont think the values that are being displayed are entirely correct but its a start.
Unfortunately, the 2002 model got the transmission which is common with Mercedes. The 2001 still had the 5HP19. IPT Performance is the shop that rebuilt the transmission. However, they only work on the transmissions outside the car and nobody around here would do it. I had to do that myself. It would have been fine, but something went wrong and is still going wrong.
I need a shop that can take it out, figure out what's wrong, fix it, put it back in, and make sure it's solid before I touch it again. I am SOOOO tired of this project!
yup, didnt read the whole thread and spoke too soon.
Theres a place in missouri called metric machine that works on these things apparently but you'd have to drop the transmission yourself it seems.

Yeah, I'd like a shop that will do it so there's end-to-end accountability. I've perfected the art of dropping it without dropping the engine, but it's painful.
Somehow I missed this one by
@vtec_
.
I haven't seen much useful info in the adaptive shift points yet, but that's probably because I'm not sure how to interpret it.
I'm going to post a video showing a lot of other data when it goes into limp mode.
Does anyone remember where to get new valve-body/solenoids mentioned in another thread? I can't find it again, for very low cost? Price was about $160-$190 or something like that? There was a link, laptop crashed, can't find it now.
Any help appreciated.
YMMV
Do a query on Google. Then read the AI response and fine tune your query.
Something like 'highest recommend shop to rebuild SH* (your tranny) valve body xxxx (year) 996.x'
It will respond with 3 shops. None of them cross ship though. Turnaround is 3 to 5 days.
These shops rebuild the valve body, machine the base to remove warping, pressure test, hook up engine and test it and at least one then throws it on a dyno and tests how robust the rebuild was before returning it to you.
You can also run the query from your phone.
