Market has really changed....people that got early 992 Carrera’s didn’t get the normal free motoring for six months and now the Turbo !

I suppose the problem is that whichever OPC you are talking to can sell it’s allocation of Turbo S’s for the foreseeable future.....so why pay for a test drive for someone like you at the PEC.

Hi Guys, I currently have a deposit and spec lying with my local dealer for the Turbo S however as I am sure you are aware they cannot give me a build spot yet. More than likely going on what they are indicating I could maybe get a car mid summer next year.
Being slightly impatient and instead of phoning around every dealer in the country would anyone be aware of any dealer stock or cancelled orders on their travels?
I do see a few for sale by Independent Dealers however I refuse to pay overs, did this on a GT3 and not doing it again.
Any pointers would be most helpful.
I would say the only way to do this is doing the ring around. People often pull out of their cars but they disappear quickly - I missed out on two in late July and got a bit fed up.
The 4-5 dealers I spoke to promised me calls if anything else came up but unsurprisingly I've not heard a peep. Fair enough, demand is greater than supply.
Not to add to your woes, i own one and have to say major step on for 991.2 TS sheer turn of pace is shocking, there really is not anything else out there for the money that can compete on a day to day basis. good luck with your search.

I have already phoned 2-3 dealers and not sure if I want to go through half an hour of dribble and false promises each time! however I suppose that’s the only way of doing things and might get lucky. Like you I will probably get fed up!
You will literally have to phone every dealer....even if another dealer in the same group can see it on their stock system they wont be able to get access to it to sell it. In reality I would say every OPC will have people like yourself with their name down who would probably take a cancelled order of it came up.

I am soooo happy for you! Lol Good to hear you think it’s a major step up, think I will just have to be patient with the local dealer. Out of curiosity, apart from the pace, anything else that stands out for you over and above the 991.2?

Dealers will only know their vehicle allocations for the next few months, highly unlikely further forward than that - key is to find a dealer with only a couple of Turbo S orders in their hand, that way you'll be near the top of the list should someone cancel or if they get an extra early allocation (it happens). I enquired recently with my local friendly OPC (mid Sussex), and was offered a December build slot, but i am rattled over the extra 10 percent duty requirement in the event of a likely no deal Brexit, as payment can't be made in advance of physical delivery which will be January 2021 given an earliest December 2020 build.

Oh yes plenty!! So the front end iMO is straight off a .2GT3! Turn in is great!
Another stand out- when you trigger sports plus mode, spoilers front and rear deploy, you can really feel the car being sucked into the tarmac at pace.
Unfortunately there are downsides so I’m going to be transparent- I spec’d 10mm PASM, on A roads and general decent B road it’s fine. Come to a bad B road and expect you feel like your in a 3RS.2! But hey it adds to the theatre. Another thing... interior panel rattles! Especially over the rear parcel shelf where now there is less sound proofing I keep find this rattle which I’m sure is an easy fix

FYI- as was with the .2 991 TS Porsche limited supply, well unfortunately it’s the same with 992 TS. My OPC is a large one and only got 3 for the year!

This reminds me of when I wanted a 996GT2, I missed the boat and had to pay slight overs from an Indy, Was glad I did at the time. I would give it a couple of months then make offers on the cars that are still around if you don't want to wait. If there is a no deal BE and a 10% price increase it might seem like value. I had mine on track last week for the first time, they really are special cars, big step up on the 991s in all areas and not just power, agree with above the front end feels like a 991GT3, I think what impressed me most aside to the much improved chassis, steering feedback/feel and suspension, was the brakes. For me this was a weak point on track with the 991s. Good Luck with your search.

I got offered one from Silverstone Porsche a few weeks ago but it was in crayon ( wrong colour for me)
Maybe sold now but no harm in giving them a call.
Good luck.

I never found LHD an issue in the UK, so would probably be my choice if I wanted a car quickly (vice versa I would never buy a LHD M3 CSL if I can get a RHD car at about half the price)
Thanks guys for all the replies, good to hear such positive reviews from all who have them. I had forgotten about the potential 10% increase on a no Brexit. Thought this might be a bit of a myth to be honest however I must ask my local dealer about this and if it is true I certainly won’t be paying another 16-17k and will be asking for my deposit back!
Apparently there are 6 orders ahead of me, 3 Coupes and 3 Convertibles and as mentioned above they haven’t received any further allocation dates so they can’t give any update on slots.
They did say they could probably push through a Turbo for me as they currently don’t have any orders for these on their system however I think I would be selling myself short....what do you reckon?

Thank you very much for the heads up, Crayon is one of the colours I would consider and I will definitely give them a call on Monday.

I was at the PEC today...had a look at the blue Turbo S coupe they’ve got....it was parked next to a regular 992 Carrera. For me one of the things about the Turbo I loved was the wide body stance....it’s a real shame that it’s lost that differentiator vs the rest of the range.
I test drove the PEC 911 TTS last week in the damp. The spec was on the poverty side of 911 which surprised me. No electric seats on a £165k car. Next to the 4s apart from rear spoiler almost indistinguishable., with the sports exhaust . I was going tempted not to spec PSE due to this and keep quads but was pleased with the noise.
Handling and power are amazing. Being instructor led in the 4s the difference in performance was visibly impressive. It’s definitely a daily Q Car with minimum dramatics.
For that reason it’s a marmite car nothing to show for your money or the perfect super car ?
Pretty sure OPC Cambridge have one of these in stock at the moment unregistered. Aventurine Green. Looks more like a green stone grey and nice if you like understated.
Rebus0 said:

Yup that’s what I thought....rear spoiler and air scoops at the side and, of course, the wheels....but it’s lost that stance over and above the other cars in the range which was a big part of the Turbo look for me.
Rebus0 said:
Doesn’t show the 4s next to it well ,but even the wheels are low key.
Gentine blue does nothing for the TurboS in my book, my GT silver 992 TurboS get lots of comments on how much it looks different to the normal 911's

got a brief drive in one finally, never driven anything as fast. stunning.
Where was this? Bristol unable to help with a drive and unable to assist with cars at the PEC. They don’t really appear to interested in our £175k and have just offered to allow a drive in a C4S...
I understand these things aren’t on every street corner right now, but I’m pretty miffed by their lack of concern to sign up a sale.

I suppose the problem is that whichever OPC you are talking to can sell it’s allocation of Turbo S’s for the foreseeable future.....so why pay for a test drive for someone like you at the PEC. It’s a bit s
t I grant you. I don’t think it costs them very much.....nothing like what we would pay. My OPC has just laid on test drives for the Taycan via the PEC....they sent an e-mail a couple of weeks ago with six days of availability.
Not withstanding availability and demand far outstrips supply I was at OPC Cambridge a few days ago. Like a scene out of Contagion when I accidentally walked in with face mask in pocket rather than wearing. I then signed scope of work and they asked me to take the bic biro with me. Car came back with cellophane on steering wheel, seat and gearstick. Nice to see them looking after staff/clients health and safety.
I doubt you will not be getting a test drive from OPC during CV19 IMO. Same with Mcl. I know independents who aren't doing test drives either.
I have to say being a car salesman and sitting next to someone inexperienced in a new 650PS turbo s not something that I would find that appealing even in more normal times! Reminds me I've let a few other owners of 997 turbo drive my car a few times so they can see what 9e upgrades are like. To a few of them I felt like saying you really shouldn't be upgrading your car as their driving ability so below average (I felt unsafe). I remember seeing a Mac 650s totalled on a test drive and when I saw the wreckage thought how have two people escaped that alive.

FYI- most OPC have at least 10-19 confirmed, paid up deposited orders on their systems already, so again better just get one ordered! having one myself ...........Awesome, just awesome.

So despite it catching fire... the door wouldn’t open, and he hit his head on the windscreen..
That should be ringing a few alarm bells about the cars passive safety measures, imo.
Strange thing is the PEC demo is not being used much as so few people getting a TTS this year . I had a choice of any day from Sept 1st . It had 800 miles on the clock. Guess the instructor’s had done a few of those 🤫.
Just won’t bother for now, we’ve no interest in buying without driving - regardless of what anybody else does.
I have no doubt it’s better and faster and I’m sure it will be insane for a few weeks going everywhere at warp speed. However I love hustling the NA 3.8 around my local rural roads, thus I want to be sure I can enjoy the Turbo in the same way - I’m concerned it’s going to feel like I’m holding back in it all the time which will get boring.
Cheers.

Given that criteria I think you are very wise to wait...because I think that’s what you will think. I’d give it three months before the first cars start appearing back at OPC’s after one careful owner has moved on to their next toy.

Exactly this..The time for 'overs are over' and there is no point in trying to bag the latest unobtainable 'must have' Porsche..In fact there are far more interesting new cars being launched by other car makers..Porsche have become just another mass maker of VAG cars with no character whatsoever,

Not sure you’d have to pay to ‘test drive’ at PEC. A half/full day would probably cost you, but my OPC offered to get me a drive of the then new 718 at PEC if they didn’t get a dealer demo before I wanted to place an order.

Hi Taffy. All fine with me (except having to curb my ranting at the government). Going for GT Silver which really suits it. I know you weren't enamoured with the 992S (which I partially agree with) but this car is a major step up - as Harry Metcalf said in his review - its what the car should always have been. Front end grip/feel is great and brakes are epic. Engine revs well for a turbo. I've done PEC quite a few times now and have never been as fast / controlled. Can't wait to see what the GT3 is like!

Those wheels really don't suit it IMO.
That aside what amazing cars these seem to be. The latest Carwow drag race shows one beating a £280K 812 Superfast and a £380K Lambo SVJ pretty convincingly. My levels of want for one are rather high.
Well I have managed to phone 7 dealers now working my way down from the North of Scotland and guess what.....no such luck! Most are very happy to take a deposit without any guaranteed build slot however I did have one who could get me a car at the end of 2022! Thanks!
It seems all the reports from the guys on here and elsewhere are extremely positive.
The want is more however I did find out that there
are 6 ahead of me with deposits down. 3 Coupes and 3 Cabs so it looks like patience will have to be had. Keep the reports coming.

Sorry far too early in the morning to read through all that nonsense. I'm still lost but it strikes me the only people over the years who call custard on forums tend to be those with a financial chip on their shoulder.

Cant agree more. I have driven mine 1300 miles in three weeks, a few car drivers meets and a silverstone trackday, on track it did show its weight cant lie there, lots of tyre pressure changes were required to find the sweet spot of 30 hot, pirellis hold up well all things considered...
On the road there really is not anything else i would like to be driving.

Not willing to do anything. We’ve got to buy without a drive, drive a C4S or arrange our own PEC day.
Kind of gone off the idea for now, but if it comes up again we’ll be talking to another dealer. I understand these cars sell themselves etc - but dealer doesn’t seem bothered. Its not the sort of experience I expect when parting with £175k (when you already have a 991 and looking at Macans for the Mrs too!)
Oh well... 1st world problems

There really is no need to test drive these... if you porsche, you will know they don’t really get it wrong. Understand if it were a family car that both were going to drive, but a TurboS... no need.
Understand it’s a lot of money, myself not having the option for a test day before delivery I was shocked how the sheer brute force flung me down the road....
Now this is a bold statement........and NO joke... I actually gave myself whiplash! Just get it ordered you can ask me all the questions you want about 992 TurboS and I’ll do my best to help before your delivery

It's an insult calling in to question the original posters post. Since it went up there's been some great advice, and if it was important to the OP you would have expected more response from them with regards the information offered.

Sorry far too early in the morning to read through all that nonsense. I'm still lost but it strikes me the only people over the years who call custard on forums tend to be those with a financial chip on their shoulder.
'Custard' is a demand to prove someone owns a car that you suspect they don't - the OP doesn't own a Turbo S, but wants to, so he'd have to post a picture of a tin of custard on its own. What this would prove, I'm not sure. Maybe the OP is quite busy, earning enough to buy a £175k car?

Certainly will.

I have been busy....thank goodness. You are correct with regard to the “custard” comment. Very difficult to show something that someone doesn’t have but hey ho some folk clearly don’t read the original post!

Nice! Wonder if it will go for less than list. Seem they are being advertised between 179-215k on AT at the moment. Don’t seem to be moving. Maybe the day’s off paying over are done with?

No way this will go for under list. Waiting times are pretty long for a new one I believe.

Yes....I’d wager at least 50% of the people who are getting the Turbo S in the first year only intend to keep the car for a few months. Residual free motoring and an RS allocation in the bag. Although selling it on Collecting Cars might kill the RS allocation !

What's surprising is that there seems to be plenty around i cannot see this holding a premium for too long.
are there? I can't find many for sale
There are 19 cars for sale just on Autotrader and others advertised elsewhere , seem a lot for a just-released new model with obviously more coming through all the time . Are these limited number?

Are any of these 19 at or below list?

Blimey hadn’t seen that ! They’re only limited by the allocation’s OPC’s get. On the 991 Turbo S OPC’s got one a quarter,,,,so on that metric if each OPC has had two cars maybe 25% of cars delivered are for sale. Market has really changed....people that got early 992 Carrera’s didn’t get the normal free motoring for six months and now the Turbo ! Porsche are getting things very wrong...they need to stop selling these cars to people who are just buying these cars to get themselves an RS. Ferrari have managed to destroy the market for their regular cars.
That car shouldn’t actually be listed. Porsche have a rule where new models can’t be listed for a period of time. Think it’s 6 months for GT cars less for the other models. I know of at least 2 other OPCs that have one for sale.

But only one listed on the OPC network at Wolverhampton and it's "on behalf of customer". Looks like it's £25k+ over.
Is that £25k over once you have taken the options into a/c? or £25k over base price?

Yes there will be more in the OPC network if there are 18 ff 19 at Independent’s !

Yes accounting for options. List is around £169k including ~13k of options.
The 19 cars on A/T is actually 18, four of which are at OPCs - Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds and Wolverhampton

Do you know if the two dealers you had mentioned are selling unregistered cars where they have to be at list? I think once they are registered they can sell at an inflated price since they are technically used.
If OPC’s are selling cars like this that aren’t advertised it can also be because they were recently supplied by a different OPC. Not supposed to do it apparently.
I got a 992S in March or May 2019 (so one of the first, can't remember whether March or May), and recently sold it after 11k miles - bought at 105, sold at 86.5 to an OPC, they'll put it up I'd guess at 95. Doesn't seem terrible for a brand new car. That depreciation is massively better than McLaren, Aston, Audi R8's, Ferrari etc.....

Sold for £169k, which with a glance at the spec I would guess would about list price?

No longer showing as sold on CC's website.
These seem to be available in plenty of OPC if you look hard enough, some can’t be listed for sale but they are available due to a number still holding onto the overs market.

Another car bid up by the CC or the owner on this site. Clearly not sold, I guess CC don’t want to get caught out again like they where recently with that escort Cosworth.
I can not imagine that there is still a premium for the 992 turbo now.
Dealers are getting 992 Turbo cars through now at a steady rate and the ones on Autotrader priced at a premium are not moving, more cars will be turning up on Autotrader with 1K miles on them at list price.
Because that is what always happens!

This ^, i think the CC car shows that list is just achievable now but no overs.
Collecting Cars have another 992 Turbo S listed on their auction site.
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2020-porsche-9...
It is currently at £157,500 with 5 days to go.

Can anyone work out what the list on this would have been?
