Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

For a bespoke tune, possibly +25-30 bhp (mid-range) gain, although this both costs two to four times as much and may impact on the longevity of the engine (this would be a very highly strung state of tune and would be impacted by any deviation from perfect running conditions - ie this is a "race" tune).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys i just bought a 996 and am considering a last mod. Remap + induction kit. My question is which one, if any? My car is old its A 2003 996 WITH 68k . few people have told me not to bother as its an old car and it will only cause reliablity issues, I thought id post on here as i value your thoughts - so Lets hear it!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my bad - very loosely speaking

POST 4Original post

Just joshing...I don't consider that old though. Still Modern in Porsche terms :thumb: Re the mods I think the most you would gain from a remap & induction kit is about 15bhp (possibly 20). Not sure the gain would be that noticeable and maybe not worth what it would cost to have done :dont know:

POST 5Original post

Induction kits tend to add zero BHP, max out about 2-3BHP and sadly result in -5BHP or more in the worst case. Plus depending on your method of "induction" tweak you can risk unmetered and unfiltered air entering the engine and hence both overheating the engine (by running too lean) and sucking in debris into the combustion chamber. I would concienciously search and read as much info as you can on the various induction systems and only make a decision when you know the issues. DO NOT READ THE MANUFACTURERS OR RESELLERS MARKETING! As for an NA remap, off the shelf approx +16-19 BHP (Note: this is mid-range maximum gain, not added to the peak power figure). A more useful gain of approx 17 lbft mid-range torque, which at least improves the "drivability" and responsiveness. Whether that is worth circa £400, is down to you. For a bespoke tune, possibly +25-30 bhp (mid-range) gain, although this both costs two to four times as much and may impact on the longevity of the engine (this would be a very highly strung state of tune and would be impacted by any deviation from perfect running conditions - ie this is a "race" tune). Do a search for remapers and reviews. http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/996c4yr1999.pdf http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/911c4s2002.pdf

POST 6Original post

Well thats answered that question for me then.... GT4 - where do you get all of your knowledge from?? You really are a Porsche guru.... hats off to ya fella...

POST 7Original post

I have the Schell CAI, Helmholtz Resonator deletion, K&N panel filter and SuperChips remap. ... and X51.

POST 8Original post

Hi GT4 What does all that add up to in layman's terms i.e. grunt, smoothness etc?

POST 9Original post

I can't really tell, didn't do a before and after. I don't tend to redline it, so peak power is a foreign country anyway. The mid range pull is nice and along with an H&S "Oettle" PSE-alike bypass, alot of nice noise. And to be quite honest, for what at factory spec was a 180 mph car, that's the most accessible and enjoyable upgrade I have done.
