sound to be a bit more throaty - but don't think I need a full
exhaust
. I've heard Borlas on youtube and I'd be satisfied with 25% of that.
I have a chance to get the
fabspeed
tips. Note, these are supposedly more than just for the looks.

Instead, I can save up to get a full exhaust of some sort. But I don't want to spend more than $1000.00 either way. Certainly the tips won't cost that much - but if they don't make any noticeable change in sound and are just for the looks, well then this is almost pointless.
Another route I have is going to a custom pipe bending shop and giving them a thousand to work some custom magic. But I'd rather spend less and get even just a bit more sound (and looks).

Save your money. I have had the
fabspeed
exhaust
except the
headers
on my previous 2009 987
Boxster S
and it robbed the car of low down torque - pushing the power band higher up the rev range - great for the track but not for daily driving. It also introduced a drone in the 2500-3000 range. If you want to go the
Fabspeed
route, you should match it with their
headers
and also put in the
IPD Plenum
,
GT3 throttle body
and a
ECU
retune to make full use of those mods.
If you want to have the sound without the loss of low down torque or drone, then get the
Carnewal
modified stock
exhaust
or better yet get the OEM
PSE
. The previous owner of my current 2011
Boxster Spyder
put one in and it doesn't drone and there is no loss of torque in the lower rpms.

I have
Fabspeed
tips only. I was not expecting a change in sound, i bought them just for the looks.
At idle, and low revs/crawling around parking lot, you can hear a *slight* difference in the sound because the crossover point of the
exhaust
from the 2 sides has changed with the
fabspeed
tips. Not better or worse, and not any louder. It's just ... different.
Once the revs get up pass ~ 3000 and the engine noise gets loud, you won't hear any difference from OEM tips.
How hard was it to install? Could you do it on your own?
Yes. If you're even a little bit mechanically inclined, it should be easy.
However, I'm the opposite of that, so I had it installed for me. But the guy said it was pretty simple. He took off one rear wheel, so he could loosen the stock pipes and remove the stock tips. Then put the new one on, tightened everything back on. Would have taken him 15mins except he had to wait for my
exhaust
to cool off before he made the change.
It's 2 parts.
X-pipe that connects to the stock pipe coming out of the muffler. (this is where the difference in sound would come from. Instead of stock TT connector, it's X connector)
Then the tips screw on to the X-pipe.

. The sound is improved and deeper than stock, and the tips look great. I wouldn't want anything louder, or with a drone.
