Hi all 9'ers,
Over this past Memorial Weekend, I purchased the AWE Tuning cat-back exhaust because I heard it was easy to put on(uses factory hangers), the design, and sound minimum drone.
The Memorial day price was pretty good - several hundred dollars off, and the final price delivered was $1,970.00 and being 46 years old and born in 1970 - jokingly, I said to myself - "it's a sign").
Having already put in the IPD plenum and .82mm GT4 throttle body last year - next exhaust, under pulley, maybe headers, probably ecu tune, suspension and ground effects???... I usually take a year to research and get it done for each upgrade/modification
Having lifted my car, using the red Fabspeed jack point (great option - well worth the small price to pay for it), and then putting my 987.1 on jack stands to get this easy "bolt-on" cat-back stainless steel exhaust on in a couple hours.... sure....
As I was removing the factory exhaust - the factory studs snapped off - stopping me in my tracks... - I don't have a torch, a couple welders yes,... torch... no....
So, I'm here at this point, wondering what to do...
Buy a torch,.. (not even sure I can?)
Spend many hours drilling out the snapped studs? (may need to even buy an angle drill to get at them safely???)
or buying new aftermarket headers?
So, I decided to take the easy route, (I mean my 07 has 30K for mileage and I'm sure I need to do some thing sometime, and its kind of up in the air already...) looking for new headers...
So i look around - all the web can offer,...
Ebay has several no named headers damn cheap - but am I really going to risk cheap headers on my soon to be classic Porsche - last of the Porsche Mohegans - naturally aspirated 6 speed manual)
Then there is FabSpeed - researching the exhaust - I know that Fabspeed makes great products but are they really the only choice (online - in USA) that I can get set of headers?
Porsche 987 Boxster / Cayman Sport Headers - Fabspeed Motorsport
Lastly, I am not making a track car, don't want to get any CEL issues, and I don't want to scare my elderly neighbors
All thoughts welcome!!!
Or you could get what seems to be a removable screw, PN 900 075 365 02, M8 x 30, and just replace them. Sorry.
But double-check the PN.
Is there enough room on the studs for you to weld a nut onto them? That may be the "easiest" way without replacing anything. I sent you a PM as well, take a look.
Best,
Spend the time and drill them out. Its not that difficult. I highly suggest you put flexible fittings on the pipe itself which will prevent the flexing of the exhaust from cracking the Cats. Look it up in the CAYMANREGITER on how to do this. Also if you are tracking the car do the deep sump an UDP. Cheap insurance
