Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm attaching a pic of my paint code sticker from the front trunk. I'm looking at buying DR color chip, but have a question. My car is VERY dark blue, I would have thought it was Midnight blue or Zenith Blue, but according to the paint sticker, 3AZ, is "ocean blue." Anyone with a midnight blue know what their # is? I don't see it as an option for '99's. Finally, anyone else able to decode any of the other codes on the sticker, or can they point me in the right direction of a place that I can? Thanks in advance, I tried searching this, and could not find what I needed. DS

POST 2Original post

I have a Midnight Blue 2000 Cabrio and it has the same L 3AZ code. I believe Ocean Blue is significantly lighter. Don

If you have that paint code you have an Ocean Blue Metallic Cabrio

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Confused...I have a midnight blue. It's the same color as Don's, and Dennis'. However, mine is not a convertible, so why would I have a code saying I have a Ocean Blue Metallic Convertible? Is there just bad info out there, and that's why Don has the same color car I have, but also has a different code? Any input is always appreciated. Thanks guys! DS

POST 6Original post

According to "996 The Essential Companion" pg. 619 - 620 paint code for 1999 thru 2005 Ocean Blue Mettalic is 3AZ. Midnight Blue is paint code 37W or 39CF. Both are special order paint codes.

POST 10Original post

Ocean Blue Metallic is pretty dark. It could easily be mistaken for Midnight Blue Metallic until you see it parked right next to a Midnight Blue car...

POST 11Original post

Doh! When I bought the car I never asked about the color. I just assumed it was Midnight Blue. Oh well, it works since the color sold my wife on the purchase. Don

POST 12Original post

Pic 1 is an Ocean Blue Metallic 996. Pic 2 is a Midnight Blue Metallic Cayman. The difference is pretty subtle. The Ocean Blue car has a little more of a green tint, and it can be seen more easily in person in bright sunlight.

POST 13Original post

I have a 99 cabrio that is listed as 3AZ. I also have the original sticker, which notes color as Ocean Metallic. I was recently near a midnight blue turbo and the color difference was noticeable right away. I also have a hard top I might be able to be talked out of

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cornbread and Dennis, great info, thanks a ton! Don, I really like the color, but would have thought it was midnight blue, not ocean metallic...who knew? After seeing the picture, I agree, they are very similar, and I would say that I have the first, as opposed to the second, again, who knew? As always, you guys are a tremendous amount of information!
