Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

One possible place to start is with CarFax. If you have the VIN number on any of the old paperwork you can at least follow the registration sequence. If you have the VIN number and a very close friend in the used car business near you, they might be able to put the VIN into their system and find out the current owner name and address, and get a CarFax printout. The CarFax is not a definitive list of all of the service or repairs but it does track the change of ownership and tags fairly well. You can also get the CarFax all by yourself if you have the VIN, but it may cost you around $35 or $40 to get it directly. Many car dealers have commercial access they pay a flat rate for, regardless of how many they draw. I tracked down my 1989 911 Carrera Targa that way. Current owner is taking extraordinary care of the car right now, but will keep me on his first-to-call list when he is ready to sell.
