I installed the Bird Armrest for the comfort of having an armrest for my right arm - and got the cupholder too.

guess I've been lucky because I use my cup holder A LOT and zero issues thus far

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's really evil to have cupholders on the 996. They are in a ridiculous spot and are a genuine hazard. I knocked a paper cup of coffee (only partly full) today. At least the lid was on. Still, what a frickin' mess; the dash, the shifter, the pants..... I strongly suggest to all those who have these holders to NEVER use them. Except for water. Porsches are not made for sippin' coffee in. Lesson learned.....AGAIN!
I like having them for the occasional water bottle. My wife likes to put one of those rediculous clear plastic insulated water deals in there and it sticks up a mile high. But hey, she supports my habit. My least used feature is the stereo. I could see the attractiveness of a radio delete.
I forgot i had a coffee in there this am, and had to interupt a spirited 90 hard left turn mid turn so that the coffee wouldnt explode all over the interior.
I like my ultimate cup holder but I cant fit one on the drivers side - gets in the way of my leg - so its in the passenger side and its mine. If you want to ride with me and drink - you gotta hold it.
I've said it before... Having the cup holder right in front of the air vents keeps your coffee warm in the winter and your water cool in the summer. Those German's think of everything!
As an aside WTF do Starbucks coffee cups leak like a sieve form their lids? $5.00 for a cup of muddy water and they can't make a lid does not leak out the top of the F'ing blow hole.
Actually, since Germans hate the idea of Americans using or having cupholders, as drinking in a car, when you should be driving is bordering on sacriledge, I think the choice was intentional. "They want cupholders? CUPHOLDERS!? I'll give them cupholders they'll never forget if they use them, but will not even notice if they don't....mwahahahaha"
Really. Remember all the early threads about "There are cupholders?". Never use mine, either. I have an Ultimate as well, I moved from my BMW, fits right where the drivers seat meets the shift tunnel. Perfect for the occasional water bottle.
Funny thing this with cupholders. It has never been a big thing in Europe as far as I can remember, as I guess we sit down at cafe's to drink our coffee and don't have the same urge to bring a paper cup with a plastic lid with us while walking, driving, sailing or whatever motion one is engaged with
... This is rapidly changing though and it is now only a question of time, before we also are 100% Americanized on the cup holder front
+1, for the most part. I did learn early on that for some stuff I have to wrap extra napkins around some of the more spilly drinks. Otherwise I use it almost every day.
For me it's not so much the need to drink while in the 996, I just like to be able to pick up a good cup of coffee on the way to work and have a place to put it till I get there.
OMG - and have the car smell of greasy fries?
I like the cup holders to cool down my bottled water after they've been sitting in a hot car all day. I consume way too much coffee as it is, and the cup holders truly disuade me from drinking coffee in the Porsches.
